Albert and Trout are a helluva 1-2 punch.

'stros outscored LAA last night. HOU & LAA are tied at the top of the AL West.

Lots of moves going down. KC is going all in after getting Cueto & Ben.

Lots of smoke about 'stros going after Hammels. I don't think it happens, but Keuchel(2.32), Kazmir(2.24), Hammels(3.64), McCullers(2.60), McHugh(4.43) is just mean.

Kc getting Cueto is sick.

Can't wait for lowrie and springer to get back in the lineup

But the Royals rotation doesn't scare me. Volquez is good. So is Cueto, obviously, but Young at #3 is okay. After that Duffy & Guthrie are meh.

Getting Hamels would give Astros easily the best rotation among the contenders in the AL. As is they might have it depending on how deep in the season they plan on stretching McCullers. A DK Kazmir Hamels top 3 is just dirty

Late Aug at best I think.

Jed is back tomorrow and starting at 3rd.

Back in first. Price is there out there for the taking.

Thanks. Major move for the Rangers on Hamels.
O's have a little something going again: 5 in a row after sweeping the Braves. They also lead the majors in team fielding percentage.

Woke up this morning and could not believe that they pulled it off. Good thing is Phils are throwing in cash and taking Matt Harrison's contract off our books. We also got a young bullpen pitcher in the deal. Don't think itll help much this year but if we can get healthy and stay healthy next year we may have something going.

This. I hope Ranger fans aren't expecting a come back this year. They're 8 back from Houston & still have to leap the Angels too. They're only 4 back in the 2nd WC, but they would need to jump DET, CHI, TB, TOR, BAL, & MIN. I cannot see either of those things happening.

You never know. Crazier things have happened, but I am glad we are not going to have to do the free agent shuffle this year looking for starters. If we can shore up our bullpen (as in completely overhaul) and dump the Choo contract this offseason has the chance to be phenomenal. I like they are building for the future. We gave up some good prospects but by no means depleted our system. With the Phils sending cash as well I really think it was a no brainer.

If we hang around and make a push for the playoffs this year that would be straight icing. I don't see it happening, but if we get hot like we did in May and early June, you just never know.

Are they? This seems short sighed if they're building for the future. It seems like a go all in for 2016 move.

According to baseball america Rangers gave up their 3rd, 4th, and 5th best prospects plus a couple more lower rated ones.

Forbes Article

Here is a pretty good write up. With the pitchers we have coming back the arm talent does not sting that much. The catcher was not developing well and has missed much of the season with ankle issues. The combo of Chirinos and Telis already on the Major league club are more than capable. Also it gets some of the left handed heaviness out of the farm system. That has been a nightmare this year and was not going to be improved by the prospects. With them taking Harrison and sending cash and a reliever our way who is under control for multiple years. This turned into a pretty payroll neutral deal. If next year turns into a laugher well we still have trade value and if we want to go after prospects to supplement what we still have, at that point we can.

On the pitching front, we should know by the end of this year if we think that Martin Perez and Derek Holland will round into shape. The end of this year should get the awkward transition to pitching after TJ surgery out of the way for Perez. He should be fully recovered for the start of next year. As for Holland, he starts his rehab stint today so we should know with him as well if we need to look for a replacement in the offseason. I expect he will be good to go. Now Yu is the big question mark in my mind. He will be starting the year next year in the awkward recovery stage after TJ surgery. Him and the bullpen will be the biggest question mark during the offseason in my estimation.
A lot of people lose sight of how injured the Rangers have been the last two years. So if we can finally shake the injury bug and get the guys back to performing well after coming back from injury we very well could contend next year. But if we break down again and the front office decides that holding this group together is not going to pay off; we have a lot of good pieces to pull in prospects with.

I haven't had this much fun following the Stros in a long time. I guess 05. Man it feels good. As much as I love football & basketball, baseball will always be my true love.
