This is not a melt, nor a drunken rant.

I don't deny I actively seek silver linings when it comes to A&M football. I'm a happier fan when I find things that make me happy about the program.

This program has brought me much happiness since the SEC move. The exposure, the success, the renovated stadium, the excitement every week, those have all been fantastic.

At the same time, though, CFB is a cruel, bottom-line business. We are far better as a program and as a school than we ever were at any other point in our history. But "better than we were" is not satisfactory if/when we fall short of our goals in this conference. As much of a shot in the arm as Sumlin has been for our program, if he's hit his ceiling, we HAVE to consider moving on. In this business, you're either progressing or regressing, and we damn sure haven't progressed since the 2012 season as far as results are concerned.

I place most of the blame on the collapse this season on Spavital, but it's always something. Don't necessarily want to pull a reprise of the end of the RC era and knee-jerk a replacement just to make ourselves feel better.

But it's high time to reevaluate.

If Sumlin doesn't fire Spav tomorrow and address this shite then yep he needs to go.

I think, at this point, the writing in on the wall. Johnny Manziel and/or KK made Kevin Sumlin. The tends are too much to ignore. Three straight in season collapses, QBs getting head fricked, locker room problems, bad hires save Chavis, declining offensive line...just all around decline in all areas.

I know we won't fire him, but IMO the book is written. He might win enough to stick around but he'll never win anything of note here.

The contrast between when Texas Tech played Arkansas and when we played the Razorbacks was so stark it was jarring. Kliff was the man who had the wherewithal to competently and relentlessly exploit the kinks in these vaunted SEC defenses. Playing Arky the week following the mauling Texas Tech delivered to them should have been a piece of cake considering we have better athletes running what should be a near-facsimile of the same system.

But, no, we struggled. Mightily. Won in SPITE of Spav, Sumlin, fate, whomever. And instead of learning from such close scrapes, we dug in our heels and remained rooted in that same rut.

Nah. Sumlin just needs to find a different OC. He took a risk on spav and it hasn't paid off.

I dont know why but at some point we quit running the air raid. The hybrid we are running does not flow. It feels like watching west virginia on offense. They always seem so inconsistent.

He needs to find a different OC or take over the playcalling himself. If he's the offensive savant he's built his career on purporting to be, I vote for the latter.

To have allowed this bullshite with Spav to have gone on as long as it has is inexcusable. What I saw tonight was an offensive staff that knew they had nothing and flat out refused to do anything remotely different to get something, anything going. Hell, run trick plays or wildcat sets for all I care. Show that you're trying instead of laying down and meekly accepting a bludgeoning.

Our RB had 7 catches (for 9 yards). That's one more catch than the top 2 receivers had tonight. Spav had no clue. I was sitting in front of the TV announcing what he'd do before he did it. I only missed a handful of times. The guy is so predictable. Kyle Allen is clearly damaged goods at this point (or the second coming of Kenny Hill). It's time to move on. Why has Sumlin developed average QB's everywhere except at A&M; and has, after Manziel, who he didn't recruit, done nothing but take talented QB's and have them regress? I agree that we've been a program progressing on talent and regressing on offense, and that is extremely concerning. Chief has to be wondering if he really came to the right school if he was looking for some offense to support his defense.....

Sumlin can recruit, that's all I'm certain of. I don't think he or his coaches are good at developing talent. There is far too much talent on that offense to only put up 3 points (and 7 on a shortened field last week). We can beat bad or average teams, but any time we play a team that's better than average or good, we lose. 5 million a year means you should be winning big games and improving your program, that's not happening right now,

We quit running the air raid and quit any semblance of tempo. We stick to our basic bitchmade set of plays and hope they work. If not, here ya go, Kaser.

Said this during the gamethread--every yard we gain feels like it takes a monumental effort against SEC defenses. The only exceptions (anomalies) have been the 4th quarter/OT vs. Arky and the 1st half against State.

Sumlin will make the necessary changes. He always has. I don't know why people think he doesn't make changes or isn't willing to make them quickly - they obviously didn't follow A&M under Sherman. Or Fran for that matter.

He isn't, the last time he called plays you were in 9th grade.

Unacceptable. No two ways about it.

Ditto.

I mean, I watch a good deal of football, but my layman's perspective should not be affording me enough information to predict our plays at such an alarming rate. If you and I can do it, you bet your bottom dollar that folks who make a living gameplanning against our shite will shut it down with a quickness.

Agree on both counts as of right now.

You know I've followed TAMU football longer than that

I believe that Sumlin is willing to make those changes.

That willingness needs to manifest itself again right fricking now. It sounds (and is) callous, but to hell with what he's done in the past. It's what he needs to do right now that is most important.

I hope he takes the necessary steps, and takes them damn soon. I'm rooting for him, but rooting for the program more.

He always waits too long. Snyder should have been gone after 2013, Spav after last year, McKinney ages ago and he's STILL here.

And every year it is someone else's fault. He has blamed his failures on Snyder and McKinney and Anderson and soon to be Spav. You're the head fricking coach, it's your program. The blame is on him now.
