RT - Eluemunor (graduation)

South Carolina: They lose 10 starters off a bad team including 6 defensive starters and both kickers
Alabama: While they lose 9 starters, let's be frank. It's Alabama. They just reload.
at Florida: They lose 7 starters, 8 if Tabor declares (including 7 on defense)
Mississippi State: They lose 11 starters, including most of their offensive line and starting defense.
Auburn: They lose 8 starters, but the road team always wins.
New Mexico

at LSU: They lose 10 starters, 11 if Adams declares, but it's in Baton Rouge.

Also losing:
QB - Knight (graduation)
WR - Seals-Jones (NFL) - possible depending on his draft grade after the season
DT - Walker (graduation)
Holder - McQueen (graduation) - don't underestimate the importance of a good holder!

I can't imagine RSJ will go to the draft after this year.
Seems like Sumlin has some excellent examples to show him where his players should have waited.

Walker hasn't started the last 3 games, Zaycovan Henderson has.

I hope you are right

It still looks pretty dire IMO. We need Stidham to come here in the worst way.

Objectively he's not much better. Our offensive improvement can largely be attributed to our OL playing much better and allowing us to run. Our passing scheme is still simplistic.

Even if it is a seven win season I am cool as long as we win ten this year.
The game is rigged, no one will win anything worth a damn until Saban is gone. Right now I would rather hang onto Sumlin and be one of the few stable programs in the SEC when Nick hangs it up in a year or three.

Which is an unbelievable amount of stability.
Coming into this season, we returned 13 starts, all Avery Gennesy.
Next season, we will return 39 starts on the offensive line.
LT - Koda Martin (RS JR)
LG - Colton Prater (SO - 13 starts)
C - Erik McCoy (RS SO - 13 starts)
RG - Connor Lanfear (JR - 13 starts)
RT - Kellen Dietsch (RS FR) or Trevor Elbert (RS SO)
Backups
LT - Tank Davis (RS JR)
LG - Riley Anderson (RS FR)
C - Austin Anderson (SO)
RG - Keaton Sutherland (JR)
RT - Trevor Elbert (RS SO) or Kellen Dietsch (RS FR)
That's a lot of experience coming back under year 2 of Jim Turner.
In addition, every single running back returns
Remember the improvement between 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 with the same line and running backs?

I made this comment this weekend. Give our line another year and they will be very good. Give them another two and we will be dominant again. That can cover for a lot of flaws in other areas.

I find him to be MUCH MUCH better.
Unlike Spav who seemed to have a plan and then fell to pieces when the plan didn't work, Mazzone seems to at least willing to make changes in-game to what works.
Like in the Bama game he was quick to put in Ford when it was obvious that Bama was fast enough to undo what has made Trayveon so dynamic this year. Ford was bigger and had at least a chance to stay upright even if he is slower and has fumble problems.
Or just how he has managed Knight overall. He got benched at OU because they wanted him to throw it all over the place and he couldn't. He comes here and Mazzone has him running more and making passes that are within his ability and we have had a lot of success.
I think Mazzone has proven he was an upgrade, the problem is our limits based on talent and experience.

Our passing scheme is still simplistic.
Is that due to Mazzone or Knight though? I mean Knight can only throw about half the balls an elite QB can normally throw, and pretty much can't be trusted on even easy intermediate throws. It's either screens or deep lobs with nothing in between. That is hard to scheme around.
Mazzone is even recruiting pretty damn good. Better than Chavis on the other side of the ball. I don't see any reason to complain.
In fact all around our coaching is pretty great this season. When we lose it's due to Knight's limits or our depth and not because of game mismanagement or coaches sticking to what doesn't work.
My only fear about the future is 100% related to recruiting and the fact we have to fight so damn hard for every inch on the recruiting trail.

I've been thinking Watts forgoing his senior season was a forgone conclusion. It still may be, but this draft will be very deep at S and if he doesn't get a 1st Rd grade from the NFL draft advisory board, weve seen other rising seniors choose to stay under Sumlin for one more year. Ive seen mocks without him in the 1st. (Not that they mean much at this point)
Im all for him going on to collect his payday if thats whats best for him. Just wondering how it plays out.
