Way off topic, even here. But I figure some will enjoy this GBH article.

Personally I'd go with Craig James, just for the resulting meltdown.

It'll be tough answering all the dead hooker questions at the press conference.

basically what I want to happen is Chad Morris goes there to get some HC experience and is good enough to step in at A&M whenever Sumlin decides to scratch that NFL itch.

They're not going to get anyone until bowl season. If I were SMU, I would go after John Chavis.

Chavis has said for years he has no desire to be a head coach. His list of declined interviews over the last 15-20 years is a whose who of national powers.

SMU likes to go after experienced HC's on their way out.

Sumlin ain't leaving. He can be the Paterno/Bear for us. Took us to SEC, re-awoke every sportswriters sleeping giant, and he's taking us to the mountain top and not looking back. Charlene loves College Station. College Station is much more family friendly than any NFL city. Plus he gets to recruit his own roster, and make just as much money with less scrutiny.

Sumlin's salary is top 10 in the NFL, and only going up. On top of getting to run the whole show right now.

He's said on interviews before that he would consider it but not anytime soon.

I'm hoping it is Tim Beck from Nebraska.

Coached HS in Dallas so has ties.
He's worked for Pellini, Snyder, Heacock, Miller.
He's "young" 40's
He is a very good offensive mind and enjoys recruiting
Has ties with the Stoops family also.

Here's a crazy thought, but why not go after Willie Fritz from Georgia Southern? He did a phenomenal job at Sam Houston State and I'm sure he'd like to come back to Texas.

SMU really needs a big hire and they got the money.

I just not sure who it will be.

I am scared though it will be Garrett once he gets fired in week 7.

Baylor OC Phillip Montgomery would be a solid hire also

Only if they also hire the strength and conditioning coach from Baylor. He's part of the reason Baylor has been able to use sub par recruits and succeed across the board.

Strength and conditioning coaches are important to any program's success, not just Baylor

Has anymore come out about why he left? They were outscored like 88-6 in their first two games and now Jones leaves? Was their a mutiny of sorts?

eta: I don't think Morris will leave for an SMU type school. Clemson pays him enough and as long as they do well with him he'll be able to pick a school of a much higher caliber whenever he chooses.

I don't either. The Pony Express and rampant cheating are an historical artifact that ain't happening again. I don't think there's enough money to hire an established successful coach at SMU. They'd do well to compete for the AAC title and build from there. Some will point to Briles going to Baylor (and he has worked miracles there), but I think Baylor had a much better foundation to build on.

People's motivations are different. Morris and his wife are both Ags from ETx. A football coach's life often means moving around, but taking a job back home that is a perfect fit to your long-term ambitions makes sense. There's really not much left to be gained sticking at Clemson.

There is mutual interest there. SMU has money (Jones made $2.1m). I'll be shocked if he's not the guy tbh. He's a perfect fit for SMU and based on what I've heard, SMU is a nice fit for him as well.

The only reason why I think he'd say no is because he has been courted a lot recently, if he is patient he can land a big job soon. (imagine if a Michigan type got rid of Hoke after this season for example)

Just so you know, it does almost all of our hearts good to see you over Michigan losing.
