He singlehandedly is the reason we lost to KSU. When the run is working, and there are running lanes, why does he frickING always abandon the run once he is in the red zone?

When did he abandon the run in the redzone vs KSU? The only time we didn't score when we got into the redzone was the final possession. LINK

That last set of downs went run, screen pass, run, pass. If Trevor reads the defense correctly and throws to either Kirk or Reynolds on 3rd instead of audibling to a speed option odds are we at the very least get another first down b/c the DBs were playing 10 yards off the ball.

The requirements for success you listed are not only valid but indicative and explain a lot regarding our offense over the past 5 years, even with 4 different OC's.

Not really. Mazzone is the only one who runs a bunch of read option and run/pass option thus it is much more important for the QB to have the ability to run to keep the defense honest. It's not the same kind of offense so the requirements of the QB are different.

Read-Option or not, there was no legitimate running threat in 2014, and no legitimate running threat besides Carson in 2015. a 10% increase in accuracy alone from the QB position might have made a HUGE difference in 2016.

Why are you now bringing in RBs to the discussion? I am specifically talking about QBs.

Again, why are you bringing up Spav's offense in a thread about Mazzone's offense? Mazzone's offense is not the same as Spav's. Spav didn't really want his QB running the ball so there is no point in comparing a QB's running ability in his offense to a QB's running ability in Mazzone's.

What happened under Spav means jack shite when looking at what we need from a QB under Mazzone.

Of course it would. 10% better completion percentage would make a huge difference in EVERY offense. Nobody denies that Knight's inability to complete better than 53% of his passes was a huge hindrance.

Next year's QB doesn't have to be as good as Knight running the ball. He just has to be good enough that opposing defenses can't completely ignore him like they did with Hubenak.

Whoever it is needs to be in the 60-65% range passing b/c Mazzone uses short passes to set up deep balls and the option to run or pass on 3rd.

If most of the passes he called for were deep or only came on 3rd down the accuracy in the 60% range wouldn't be as important.

Wow... that is my first time seeing a replay of that 3rd and 4th play, I was sitting in the end zone we were going towards so it was hard to see the huge cushion that both Kirk and Reynolds had. They were both in man coverage with no safety over the top.
