After winning the Big 12 in 1998:

1999 - Started 5-1, finished 3-3 (2-1 in November), 5-3 in conference
2000 - Started 7-2, finished 0-3 (1-2 in November), 5-3 in conference
2001 - Started 7-1, finished 1-3 (0-3 in November), 4-4 in conference
2002 - Started 5-2, finished 1-4 (1-3 in November), 3-5 in conference

Now let's look at Sumlin's last four seasons

2013 - Started 7-2, finished 2-2 (2-2 in November), 4-4 in conference
2014 - Started 5-0, finshed 3-5 (2-2 in November), 3-5 in conference
2015 - Started 5-0, finished 3-5 (2-2 in November), 4-4 in conference
2016 - Started 7-1, will finish 1-4 (1-3 in November), 4-4 in conference

Are we really holding Sumlin to a lower standard than we held Slocum?

how long are you planning to melt? I'd like a rough estimate when this board might be readable again and you are generally a good weather vane

At this point I'm melting until the end of football season, and continuing until we get a new coach.

Let's wait and see how we do against OM before we start shopping around

You saw what Nick Fitzgerald did.

Chad Kelly is Fitzgerald x 1,000,000

If we lose to OM and LSU, you will be in the majority opinion

Maybe we can just name this the CGSC melt thread and he can be isolated to here so that every single thread on the board doesn't get pulled off topic.

Slocum was fired because our offense remained shitty year after year. That and the 1 yard pass when we needed 2 or 3 yards.

RC was fired b/c his legs were cut out from under him due to the powers that be at the time not comprehending the need to keep up in the facilities and assistant coaching salary arms race.

Sumlin will get one more year to get it right. He could lose out and won't be fired. Mississippi State could be just a hiccup but I doubt it the way the defense has regressed. I expect to beat a Chad Kelly-less Rebel team though. He loses that game because of defense then I'm out of answers and excuses.

The whole revisionist "should we have fired Slocum" is usually played out but is actually spot on here this once.

But you better dwell on it fast because we will forget it in a few weeks.
