I am pretty sure they can email and have been able to for some time. Fax is just tradition.

Probably a lot. It seems like every year one or two get delayed until the end of the day because the fax at the school is broken. All of us nerds are freaking out he's going to flip while the young man is just trying to get through 8th period study hall so his mom can drive him to Kinko's
