I swear, I am going to stroke out. I don't think we have a set with a QB under center beyond a victory formation. It goes against every fiber of my football being to have a QB in shotgun when we are in short yardage situations.

It is a thorn in my side.

I just wish they had allowed Murray to attempt to run out wide at least once in that goal line possession that resulted in three up the gut failed attempts.

I'm not sure why we didn't have a tight end or two on short yardage. The tackler came unblocked around the end. The blocking in the middle looked good.

Haven't seen any film, but I wonder whether that was a busted assignment or a busted formation?

When we don't run the formation with any consistency, it basically is a complete giveaway as to our play calling in short yardage situations

It's not as easy to switch from QB in a shotgun/pistol formation to QB under center.

The snap technique is different and requires lots of practice.

That said I agree it needs to be in the playbook on short-yardage and victory formations. I don't like starting out 4-5 yards behind the line with the snap--way too much time for a quality defense to stop things.

I don't think it would have mattered. We weren't getting off the ball well. On the first of 3 runs where we settled for the FG, ASU had 4 guys on the line and blew up the play. The next play they had ore guys up on the line and then even more on the next one. We had 6 blockers (OL plus H back).

Go back and watch the game but just watch our blockers. On pass plays we had 6 blockers and occasionally 7. Rarely did ASU send more guys, but mostly we didn't know who to block as we didn't match up on everyone. On run plays we had success when they blitzed from the outside and we ran up up the middle on the opposite side that the defenders were coming from.
