We only had 7 scholarship guys practicing in the spring.

End of spring depth chart (which will likely be what we release for SEC Media Days) was

LT Gennessy SR/Tank Davis SO
LG Lanfear SO/Prater FR
C McCoy RFR/Talbert RFR (walk-on)
RG Eluemunor SR/Loitz JR (walk-on)
RT Martin SO/Dworaczyk RFR (walk-on)

LT, C, and RG are probably locked in.

Sutherland (SO) was out in the Spring but will likely either go to LG or RT as a starter. They are also going to prep him as emergency center. Elbert (RFR) also did not participate in the Spring so he's not on that Depth Chart.

JT also talked in an interview about in the NFL he only had 7-8 OL to work with so everyone had to be prepped for multiple positions. The way he explained it, it sounds like he's thinking about redshirting the 5 Fish (Prater, Diesch, McCollum, and the Anderson twins) and reshuffling the line as necessary.

I really want Martin to step up and be a leader on this line.

JT said something about until talking to his dad he didn't realize he'd never played OL before so he realized he'd been pretty hard on him

They love his potential but he's still pretty raw. Not sure if he'll start or if they'll slide Sutherland there and give him another year.

He is so athletic. With someone teaching him the right technique, and some natural strength gains as he gets older, I think he has the chance to be elite.

From PFF
quote:

A&M had 6 offensive linemen play at least 25% of the snaps in 2015 - just one earned a positive grade for the season

Jim's got his work cut out for him

I would have guessed Mike

Edit: it was Mike. He was our highest graded player on the team. Not sure where Ifedi ranked, but he did not grade out well in PFF's system

Makes me wonder... If Luke, Jake, Ced never go to A&M, is ifedi still a 1st Rd pick? NFL teams arent that dumb, but I feel like a lot of the Ifedi hype was based on him being the "next great A&M OT" and had little to do with on field production.

his combine numbers backed up all the thoughts on his potential. saw where they already moved him to RG though so wondering if that was the plan all along or not

Yeah they are. Malcolm Gladwell has a podcast where he talks about how they make plainly illogical draft decisions all the time, down to just basic concepts like it really doesn't make sense to take any first rounders and you'd be better off trading for multiple second round picks. LINK

This is a very talented group of offensive lineman overall. I think people are sleeping on last year's class because we didn't get Little or Hudson. A bunch of programs wanted Diesch and the Anderson twins.

Sumlin at SEC media days

“It might be a year we’re going to have to roll some guys inside at guard who have played. We have enough talent at tackle."
