Our problem is that we have no identity as a team

We can't decide if we want to be a HUNH, a hybrid H-back/zone read scheme, a slow it down and play defense squad, etc.

We have no go to offensive plays. We cant decide how we want to play defense. We can't decide how we want to run, or if we want to run much at all. Every offensive and defensive series is different, a mish mash of discoordinated playcalls and confusing decisions. We dont ever score because we outscheme people, we rely purely on the talent of our athletes. We rarely stop people because we outscheme the offense, we just hope our awesome ends go HAM.

We MUST develop an identity, whatever it is. In 2012 we knew exactly what we wanted to do and it did, every game, every possession. This team the last 2.5 years really just looks like one that haphazardly fumbles about and hopes for a good result.

This right here.

We are four games in, undefeated, and I still have zero idea what to think about the team and the offense.

Also, I want to give props to Allen tonight. Nobody wants to see Murray out there lighting it up more than me, but Allen made some incredible throws tonight.

The two point conversion and OT TD were NFL starter type throws. He also made a great throw on our 4th down conversion.

That being said, he is inconsistent. The bomb to Reynolds was a TD if he puts it in front of him and he missed a wide open Ed Pope on a bomb to the endzone earlier.

To be fair, Allen is still just a true sophomore who doesn't have a full season of games under his belt and also has to deal with getting occasionally pulled for Kyler. It can't be the easiest situation to deal with and it's not like he has the experience necessary to expect mistake free football just yet.

It's almost like our OC is completely disorganized and is picking a random play out of a deck of note cards or something.

I'm not sure they aren't.

Until a team shows they can stop Kyler I would have him in on almost all 3rd and short plays

I agree, I love the speed option play IF WE RUN IT WITH THE QB WHO HAS 4.4 SPEED.

Running that play with Kyle Allen (and Carson) is pretty much a waste. I know it worked once, but the other two times it was worthless.

I wish he would let Murray throw if he's gonna play him though, or at least run 4 verts and make the defensive backs all get 15+ yards downfield before taking off. Murray isn't the big running QB usually required to make the obvious QB draw consistently effective.

I know numbers don't tell the whole story but we still had 423 yards and averaged 9 yards per play. The red zone play calling is what really frustrates me. It easily should have been 21-7 in the third quarter. Spav needs to figure out how we can punch the ball in inside the 10. I would much rather be using Kyler in these situations than randomly rotating him in during drives.

Our defense still concerns me more unfortunately. They pounded the ball at will on us and we were bailed out by stupid penalties from them (penalties good teams don't make) on several occasions

And as far as identity goes I think we truly want to be a more power/H Back/ zone type team but we just don't have the personnel to do it. No H Back or TE that's ready, thin as shite at RB, mediocre line. We still move the ball well though despite all this

After watching the for this morning and having time to watch the D, I'm less worried than I was last night about them following it on texags and tRant. Arky deserved every penalty and more. Brandon Allen wasn't sacked till last night because Arky's line tackles, holds, blocks in the back, and chop blocks 90% of plays not a run between the tackles.

It's unreal.

I agree with everything said on the offense. The fact that Speedy and RSJ are completely silent tells me that we are missing something.

I'm beginning to think we need an upgrade at OC

I've been off the Spav bandwagon since last season, if you just look at stats after the game sure they look good, but you don't get the whole picture. His offenses pick the worst times to stall out and go cold for several drives in a row. In a game like this where Arkansas is going to limit our possessions you have to make every one count. We need to practice how to get into the end zone from the red zone and short yardage situations, I hate this shotgun formation delayed handoff when it's 3rd and one we do.

We do. Spav's style produces, but in fits and starts. The difference in playcalling from KK last week to Spav this week was stark.

Watched the game last night again. Someone said there was a lot of holding going on by Arkansas. Man they were right.

Hilliard got bear hugged on quite a few runs up the middle. No calls. Garrett and Hall got held a lot. Even on the last fumble that Garrett caused the tackle was beat and grabbed him by the collar and jersey. Very obvious but no call at all. Overall coverage really wasn't bad. BA threw the ball exceptionally well most of the night.

Too much upfield penetration by our DE's... we lost contain way too often and Collins bounced it out. Arkansas knew this was coming and schemed for this very well. Chief can adjust for this. Think we see a lot less upfield push against State. Chief rotated players a lot so 2nd team getting a lot of good work in. Going to pay off big later.

As to your point about identity of the team. Something is off right now. Maybe the tempo is a bit too slow?? Thinking this has to do with us wanting to play better defense and knowing those guys need some time off the field. Everything is slower on offense. Arkansas did a great job of holding the ball and keeping our offense off the field. Something clicked toward the end and Arkansas had no chance of stopping the Ags late in the 4th. I think it was tempo related but Allen was unstoppable by the end of the game.

This week is going to be interesting. Looking for us to speed the offense up quite a bit vs State.

Defense: there were missed holding calls. Line backers as a group looked lost, but that could get corrected. Maybe we can get by with this secondary. Run defense as a whole must improve. Defense will get corrected

Offense:

1. Offensive line sucks. We've known this. They even got blown up by Nevada. Arky D line might be the worst D line in the SECw. ASU looks totally overrated and they looked like world beaters against our O line. Gennesy sucks. Stuckey sucks. The whole left side. What are we gonna do in 2016 when we lose Matthews? And it's always been a possibility Ifedi leaves after this year for the draft. I hope some miracle happens and this changes. This looks like a problem that cannot be fixed right now. Some of the blame is on luck with the injuries to a few recruits. WE SHOULD BE O-LINE U WITH THE LEVEL OF TALENT WE PRODUCED. And not only can we not produce a competent line this year, but we don't already have the top 2 linemen locked up in recruiting(Little, Hudson)? Color me concerned. The skill positions literally don't matter if we can't block

2. Spavital- what are we trying to do? Dude looks lost. KK is missed. If Tech has the talent to easily score on Arky then we have the talent. Is Ricky seals jones even alive and why can't spavital get him involved more often?

3. QB- so damn sick of this Kyler Murray bs. It's cool to bring him in for certain packages or for certain plays or even a series to change the pace of the game. Allen has been straight up benched for Murray at times though. How dumb does that 1st down Murray run 2nd down Murray run 3rd down Allen pass look? Allen is the much better QB and Murray needs to sit his arse on the bench. Him and his daddy need to be humbled and realize this ain't Allen HS. The O line and WR drops make Allen look worse than he is.

i don't think people understand the gravity of this. Arky holds and tackles every play till they get called on it. take a break and then start again.

i watched the 2nd quarter again yesterday morning and could find a hold on every single play not up the middle just about.

This!

And it's why I keep saying that Spav is the weak link in this team.
