I agree it's low but probably higher than you think. He's not coaching anywhere (including Baylor) until this process plays out though. And he's 60.

He doesn't have to work. He made almost $6M last year in a state without income tax. He's been making that kind of money since 2013 and was getting a decent amount before. Baylor signed him to a 10-year contract that isn't over until 2023.

That depends on what his debt obligations are.
I know that for myself and most people I know, the more you make, the higher you adjust your lifestyle, and the end result is not really saving any more than you did before you made as much as you do now.
If he's mortgaged a ski house in Jackson, a beach house in Malibu, some sort of large ranch here in TX, houses for his kids, bought himself a nice offshore fishing rig, and invested in various business interests as people of this income bracket are wont to do, he might need that continuing $6MM/yr.

Found this on the Our daily Bears website. It is a discussion on how the NCAA interpreted rules for the PSU case and comparing it to the BU situation.

I'm on record as believing the NCAA overstepped their authority in the PSU case. They put on a show to make everyone feel better instead of simply letting the authorities and the courts do their job.
However, in Baylor's case the infractions were far more intimately related to on field performance. I would not object to them receiving NCAA punishment, and obviously if they paid players it's a no brainier.

So is briles fired or what? I know officially he's "suspended with intent to terminate", but wtf does that actually mean? I don't believe I've ever come across that. And why isn't he just outright fired?
I've been meaning to ask this.

Baylor fired two support staff. I believe Briles is suspended. They are letting Grobe go out and recruit the 2016 players that didn't show up on campus.

I agree.
I also think the NCAA would be within the scope of their authority in some aspects of the Baylor fiasco because they punished an NCAA scholarship athlete for coming forward by reducing her scholarship.

They may be looking to see if they have a basis to fire him "for cause" (and, thus, avoid any buyouts and/or future payments). Otherwise, yes he can be fired at-will (Texas is an at-will employment state), but if the firing is "without cause" they'll be on the hook for quite a bit.

And apparently there's a rumor that, although Starr was kept on as "chancellor", he's stepping down from that post too.

Yeah, I had assumed it had to do with contractual settlements/buyouts, but wasn't sure.

1) Title IX suit has been filed.
2) Devin Chafin will not return to team.
3) Sounds like Devernay twins and Parrish Cobb want out of LOI. Sips say Don Devernay already released.

Found a new article that sums up current issues.
Baylor's class that signed in February ranked as the best in school history, butPatrick Hudson, J.P. Urquidez, Jared Atkinson, Kameron Martin, Parrish Cobb and Donovan Duvernay have already requested releases from the letters of intent that bind them to the university, sources close to all seven confirmed.
Fellow signee Devin Duvernay, the No. 3 receiver in the ESPN 300 and the top prospect in Baylor's class, intends to request his release and is close to completing that process.

Man there was a part of a segment on the ticket this afternoon, I missed the first part as to who wrote this or said this, but someone called out Briles for all the shady and unsportsmanlike shite he pulled while at stephenville. I wish I could find it or had heard who said it.

That WILL end up being worse than anything the NCAA could do. They're dealing with FedGov now, and unless they intend to become another Hillsdale College (which doesn't take ANY FedGov money) they could be looking at some serious financial straits.

Hahaha Baylor didn't process Devin Durvenay's NLI and now he's free to go wherever. Nice job fricking up a commit from a top 40 national player.

Are we in the running for any of these Baylor recruits? Seems like we have the roster space right?

We have ~7 spots open, so yes we have plenty of room.
I'd guess we don't land any of the 2016 Baylor commits, just because there seems to be much more smoke around Texas and OOS schools. Would love Hudson or Devin, just don't see it happening.
