No teams from Texas in the AP poll for the first time since the 1960's

If you expand the original polls to 25 (initially they were only top 20), it would be the first time that a school from Texas hasn't been in the top 25 to finish the season...EVER

Some real shitty football being played in Texas. No doubt about it. Seems to coincide with not much defense being played anywhere.
depressing.

No defense being played in Texas.
This starts at the junior high/high school level.

2 losses to 2 really bad Mississippi schools kept us from 10 wins

Awful. Low point for college football in this state.

My high school (Temple) was in the Division 1 5A championship game this year, which was the first Texas HSFB game I've seen in 8 years or so. The offense and defense played was a mirror image of the Big 12 Texas teams + A&M. Nothing is more overrated than Texas recruiting. It's a serious issue that isn't going away, especially since the recruiting in Texas is spread so thin.
Also, the talent in the B1G I've seen today between Wisconsin and Penn State is clearly better than anything in the SEC outside of Bama and LSU. That take is pretty hot, but what teams in the SEC beat either of them this year? With midwestern recruits?

SEC was showing cracks as a conference by the end of '14, but we took a HUGE step back this year.
SEC dominance is clearly no more.

Meanwhile an Oklahoma team that's half Texas recruits is going to finish in the top 5

Too bad the state government can't pass a law in which any high school athlete who signs with an out of state school prior to graduation can't graduate.

7 on 7 has destroyed this Republic's once great reputation for elite-level football.

Watering down the talent with so many programs in the Power 5, I wonder if this trend will continue.

I agree. I wonder how successful a team could be in one of the power 6A HS districts lining up and playing from the I these days
ETA a team that's been average - below average too, not a Katy with a physical advantage year in year out.
One of the most successful parts of the spread early on was that teams weren't used to practicing against it and it forced them into uncomfortable personnel groupings on defense. I wonder if that could swing back the other way because of how pervasive it is at this point

The best period for college football in Texas was 1935-1941.
So I would say WW2 destroyed the reputation.
