Moving to B/CS

As some of you know, I am one of the few "t-shirt" fans on here. I grew up always planning to go to A&M and I was accepted to A&M back in '90, but decided to go into the Navy instead. When I got out, I ended up finishing up my degree elsewhere.
I now have the chance for a promotion and transfer to B/CS in June. Actually, I could live anywhere in east TX, including staying here in Beaumont, but my daughter (single dad, 14 yo) plans to attend A&M and I was considering getting my Master's. In addition, we are opening locations in both Bryan and College Station.
I have spent my fair share of time in the area, but was hoping to get some input from any of you on best area to live, etc. I will just be getting an apartment at first, but will likely buy a house later.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Just be careful when searching for duplexes/apartments. The realtors in CS making a living ripping off college students who don't know any better and I imagine the attitude extends to adults. Make absolutely sure you read the entire lease because they will take every opportunity to rip you off and take your money.

Thanks...I will make sure to be extra attentive before signing anything!

All apartments are marked up but most will negotiate with you. Unless its one of the popular complexes. Stay away from any ran by Smart Student living.

So envious. I just moved from CS in August, and I'm homesick as hell.
South College Station is a good locale--off 40/Wm D Fitch--particularly since you have a 14-yr-old (best schools).
Much development happening out that way.
Rather than an apartment, you might consider leasing a house for awhile. You'll likely find something in the same price range, and you won't have to deal w as many student "shenanigans."
Congratulations on the new chapter!

I live in South Bryan and love it here. The real estate market is different in B/CS so be prepared to look at several over priced houses before finding something. There are places to rent everywhere but as stated earlier read your lease throughly. There are lots of nice homes and good schools in East Bryan over east if hwy 6.

Be careful when you move to south college station that the water isn't provided by wellborn water. Their water isn't currently potable due to cow shite and chlorine mixing. Causes cancer, liver, and kidney failire

Absolutely open to this if I can find a good deal. So far, apartments and houses alike seem to be overpriced for what you get, but I am sure I will eventually find the right fit since I am not pressed for time.
Thanks!

Try and catch Daboman I think he still has a house for sale in a nice East Bryan neighborhood. Might be good for both of y'all.

Hi Onyx Aggie,
I was born and raised in Beaumont. I went to A&M in 1990. I lived in College Station from 1990 to 2004 and in Bryan from 2004 to July 2013. I've lived in Missouri since August.
From 2002 to 2013, I worked for the Economics Department. A ton of our new hires (usually single assistant profs in their late 20s) live in Crescent Pointe Apartments. These are in College Station but east of the bypass. I've never set foot in these, but I know that they are supposed to be well built and quiet. Signature Park apartments were built by the same people and are just down Copperfield (road). These are in Bryan.
Since 2008 I'd lived in Copperfield (subdivision) in Bryan. We absolutely loved our neighborhood. Hey, our house is still for sale!

Correct! I am merely a myth, much like the chupacabra and gas stations with clean bathrooms.

Well, if there are faggy farmers, then I am definitely in!

Dabo...thanks for the recommendations, Crescent Pointe looks like it could be good. Copperfield looks like a nice subdivision, but I have read absolutely nothing good about the Bryan school system, so I think I need to be in CS.

The Bryan school system is not really a bad system. They do have some problems but over all it is a very good school system.

Oh, the schools are far better than Beaumont.
;)
If we had stayed in Bryan, our son would have gone to St. Joseph (Catholic K-12).
