LB Mark Dodge: "I'm embarrassed. I feel for the players. The culture of "swag" that has been created around the A&M program is driving the play and decision making across the board. When successful, the team and coaches are great. But in adversity, the team can't dig out and get back into it. The old saying, "Act like you've been there before," goes a long way. Keeps people focused and even keel. Without that emotions run too high and too low with no middle ground. This is a culture issue, players and coaches playing & working hard but built on a foundation of over-confidence and emotion. This is and has been our program under Coach Sumlin. We shouldn't be surprised."

This feels like the correct line of thought, but we've had some amazing comebacks under Sumlin, both with Johnny and without.

And the Sherman era was the opposite of swag, yet they folded time and time again under adversity.

2016 UCLA - Led 24-9 with 5 minutes left in the game. Won 31-24 in OT
2016 Tennessee - Led 28-7 in the 3rd. Won 45-38 in OT

Been obvious since that 59-0 beat down in 14 or 15, this team gets punched in the mouth and they quit. No accountability, no perseverance, no spine.

The common denominator as we've had recruits pass through the program? I won't say it, I've been enough of a broken record at this point...

Here are the "amazing comebacks" that have been made by A&M teams since I have been a student.

1997 Oklahoma State - Trailed 22-7 in the 4th quarter. Won 28-25 in Overtime

1998 Big 12 Championship - Trailed 27-12 in the 4th quarter. Won 36-33 in triple overtime

2013 Peach Bowl - Trailed 38-17 at halftime. Won 52-48

Sherman,s last team shut the bed in the second half a few times. Not going to look it up but I was at 3 of those games. Blew in conference and out of conference leads. Was at Jerryworld and watched the Hogs come back n second half. Brutal but yesterday easily tops all of Shermans blown leads.

The funny thing about that gif is how on multiple sites everybody was laughing, wanting that turned into a gif, saying how they were going to bring one to Kyle field the next game....then when we lost it suddenly became a sign of not being disciplined enough and how it should've never been brought out, etc.

Funny how quickly perception changes.

I pretty much write off anyone over the age of 30 whose diagnosis is vague complaints about "swag" and not, say, the decision to sub in Mond at QB and call a bunch of pass plays.

I do think there's a culture issue under Sumlin. I mean, can you IMAGINE an Alabama player doing that on Nick Saban's sideline in the second quarter? He wouldn't play again all season.

Any time a defensive player scores, he does exactly that with a title belt prop.

It was even before that shutout that I thought we gave up. 2014 was Kenny Hill. We came out and blew USC away, played a bunch of nobodies, and then Arkansas. In that Arkansas game we got popped in the mouth, but hung on squeaked out a win in OT.

Then went and had an "unexplainable" loss in Starkville. We were hungover. No one could catch a ball (except maybe Kennedy and I think he was hurt). We played with no heart or care. Dropped the game to Ole Miss at home and then 59-0. I firmly remember thinking Arkansas being the turning point in attitude of the team that year and we saw it at State. I recall some folks more in the know saying they would explain what happened later (like after the season) but I never saw anything.

Here's what happened in Starkville in 2014:

A&M scored first, then Mississippi State answered. After a 3 and out, Mississippi State fumbled the punt in their own territory. A&M proceeded to go 4 and out IN FIELD GOAL RANGE.

After trading punts, Mississippi State goes on an 8 play drive and scores, going up 14-7.

In the 2nd quarter, Kenny Hill got picked off twice, one of those leading to a Mississippi State TD.

A field goal by A&M late gave Mississippi State a 28-10 halftime lead.

In the second half, both teams traded scores until Mississippi State went up 48-17, then milked the clock while Kenny Hill went into garbage time mode and made the game closer than it really was. 48-31.

Isn't MSU 2014 when y'all lost Reynolds?

That really was a turning point in the season.

We never lost Reynolds. He played and started every game all three years he was at A&M.
