to be fair to Strong, I think he is getting asked directly about it. But he needs to learn to sidestep questions. It's already looking obsessive because as people write articles, it becomes the focus, not anything else he's asked about
Sumlin has always been really good at making fun of dumb questions like that. He's got a lot of experience now too as he gets asked at least one retarded question per presser because they keep allowing Halliburton access to a mic

I agree.

Sumlin is extremely media-savvy. How well he handled the publicity boon while Manziel went nova was just what we needed, IMO.

I don't think this is a case of him getting asked the question and not knowing how to handle it. I mean, where did that neutral site nonsense come from? You don't just pull that out of thin air, he has to have thought about it.
This isn't an off-the-cuff remark. This is Strong deliberately signaling a desire to resume the series.
Sorry Strong, but that door is closed.

It'd be more angry than any rivalry game you've ever been to.
I come from a rivalry that has had at least 2 brawls between the teams and once had an incident that nearly led to what would've been some kind of military skirmish between the two student bodies. On top of that some 'pranks' have led to the death of at least one cow and one chicken.
All that in a more compacted state than Texas that only has 2 D1 (football) schools in it.

eta: The story between the student fight isn't known too much because of how long ago it was but lets put it this way. Gamecocks upset Clemson, Gamecock students have a poster of a Gamecock whipping a Tiger, Clemson cadets march on SC's campus arms in tow, SC students barricade themselves in with personal arms and hunting rifles. The situation was defused before shots were fired but the game was suspended for a bit after that.

I'm not trying to get into a pissing match Clemson/south Carolina is a major rivalry. So is a&m/Texas. I wasn't saying anything else

Haven't you heard? We're annual rivals now, so I thought I'd get an early start.

Well see if it lasts when we go to 9 games

Yeah I don't mind playing Mizzou or A&M, but without a natural rival in the SEC (outside of UGA) we got paired up with Arkansas every year. Now with Mizzou and A&M at home this year that means we'll have trips @Mizzou and @A&M every year, it won't be easy for many fans to make it out to both games on those years.

What I'm saying is, us being permanent cross divisional rivals might not last long. Depends on how the league goes about a 9 game schedule

I've openly supported keeping the series alive with Texas from the get go but frick having it at a neutral site.
This is my position too. It's a fun rivalry with a shitload of history and let's be honest our OOC has been pretty weak ever since the SEC move. Sure we have some PAC-12 teams coming up but it would be much better to have a guaranteed OOC rivalry game every year. But the hell with a second neutral game, just pick up where we left off at DKR.
The only problem is that Texas' schedule is actually pretty booked. I'm assuming the BCS teams are too lucrative to ditch and come with big buyouts, and even if the mid-major games have low buyouts, Patterson probably doesn't want to saddle his team with a schedule of Notre Dame, Cal, A&M, plus the Big 12 round-robin. That's pretty brutal. But Maryland is a cupcake, so I could see us replacing UCF starting in 2017 if the price is right, and definitely by 2018. (This is assuming Patterson actually cares what Strong thinks.)

Because after a few months on the job he realizes he's never going to get control of the state for recruiting purposes unless he has something he can hold over our head.
Plain and simple. He doesn't have it and unless he can beat us on the field he now know he never will.

I'm fricking tired of playing Mizzou.

Agreed.

To be honest, this could be said about any of our old SWC friends who are in the big 12 now. At one time or another, we have had some shite flair up between us. Whether it was branding bevo and inviting the sips to his BBQ, or when cadets tried level Waco to the ground with a howitzer, or when tech tore down the goal post and threw it into our student section. Whenever we pick back up those series, they will be blood baths. People on this site really don't understand how dysfunctional the relationships were in the SWC. Its makes the SEC look like one big happy family

Yeah. The booster wars in the 80s were out of control.

What is it now?
5 straight years of playing a non-rival school that's not in our division?
Replace Texas with them.
