I think what most likely happened is it was hurting him in the Bama game which caused him to sail a few passes but overall it wasn't so bad that he couldn't play. Remember, the offense had slowly started to lurch to life and was driving before RSJ decided to cut off his route and go the opposite direction right as Allen was letting it fly on that last pick 6.
After that, he was probably able to practice well enough leading up to OM but somewhere during that game he got hit and it exacerbated it to the point that he had to sit. It probably happened either late in the 2nd or early in the 3rd.

There definitely still would have been a controversy, but I feel like the way we handled it really hurt our chances in the OM game. If a large majority of our fanbase could tell Allen was hurt, then the staff clearly knew. Even if he was lying about the severity, if the difference in how he was throwing in practice was like the difference in the games we all saw, I don't understand how they started him or stayed with him past the middle of the second quarter.

Maybe so. He didn't look right really after the first drive in the OM game
