It's a department that shouldn't be around IMO, (and his) so him heading it is delicious irony.
Nothing will be made of it; Trump is just mending fences.

It's essentially like Ron Swanson being Parks Director.

Nope. Texas is the best. Voted for Gary Johnson because Trump has no political acumen.

And yet win the presidency of our great country in a landslide

A broom stick could have won against Pant Suit Hillary.

I still stand by my statement, If Trump was able to win then a broom stick made out of corn husks would have won as well. Hillary was a very poor opponent and a gift to the Republican party (see how well the rest of the Republican candidates polled against her).
The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced this country would have elected Bernie had it come down to him and Trump. Both parties have gone off the deep end.

I disagree completely, Trump won because he was believable in his consistent message of job creation and ending politics as usual. He won as an outsider. No other candidate brought that to the table, no one else.

winning the popular vote ... irrelevant! I thank God for the wisdom of our founding fathers.

What the frick does Rick Perry know about energy?!
He was the governor of TX. TX, according to US Energy Information Administration(LINK ), is an energy "Powerhouse". TX produces more oil than every nation, but Russia and Saudi Arabia.
--Leading crude oil-producing state in the nation in 2014 and exceeded production levels even from the federal offshore areas.
--27 petroleum refineries in Texas had a capacity of over 5.1 million barrels of crude oil per day and accounted for 29% of total U.S. refining capacity.
--Texas accounted for about 29% of U.S. marketed natural gas production in 2014, making it the leading natural gas producer among the states.
--Texas leads the nation in wind-powered generation capacity more than 16,000 megawatts; in 2014 Texas generated over 39 million megawatthours of electricity from wind energy.
--Texas is the nation's largest producer of lignite coal. About 40% of the coal burned for electricity generation in Texas is lignite.

So because our state sits in an area that is rich in fossil fuels and has strong winds out in West Texas, that makes him knowledgeable about the energy sector? I get that he loosened laws, but you're giving too much credit for something any conservative governor would have done in his place. He ain't special.
Bless his heart. I know he means good will, but he just ain't smart enough for me to trust him running the department of energy.

In regards to the energy industry here Perry was given the keys to a Ferrari and told not to crash it. He was like Larry Coker coaching the 01 Canes.
Fracking was spurred 100% by private industry. You can give him credit for not getting in the way and that's about it, hopefully he takes the same approach in his new job.

I love these political threads for bringing all you boys out of hiding. This forum has been dead ever since Ole Miss but this thread proves we are still all checking it.
