Not sure about starting, but was at least expecting to get a decent amount of playtime and a big contributor on special teams.

No. Alaka & Washington were the most likely starters, with George, Moore, him and maybe Dotson behind them.
But I expect the coaches were counting on him to log some snaps.

I've attached a scout article about A&M's linebackers from July. They mention Alaka and Washington as starters, but say that A&M will play a bunch of Nickle.
The next guy mentioned is Claude George. He is followed by Richard Moore, Dwaine Thomas and Riley Garner. Garner is interesting because he is also playing some DE according to Sumlin.
Josh Walker is mentioned with Landis Durham (who's moved to DE) the incoming freshman (who everybody is raving about) and the walk-ons. The article doesn't mention Jordan Mastrogiovanni who was a starter in 2014 who took a year off and now has returned as a walk-on.
