I can tell you haven't been paying attention to the Mississippi schools for the past few years.

Miss State and Ole Miss have both been to a BCS/Big 6 bowl and have won more bowl games than we have since our last BCS/Big6 bowl.

Just curious but do you not think there is a fear of what happened after firing RC? Cuz I totally was afraid we were doing with Miles what we already did with Cholly Mac. And honestly the vote will still be out on that for the next 5 years (or until we win/compete for a champ...whichever is closer).

I think you pull the trigger if you have your guy picked and ready. I think you don't if you don't lol

I did want him fired last year. Wanted the axe after UCLA too. Still not off the hook pending how he finishes this year (haven't finished a year strong under him since 2012).

Not getting blown the frick out by a mercurial lsu team is a big component.

This is reasonable.

The fact if the matter is, there aren't any home run hires out there giving TAMU a serious look. Timing just isn't there unless the landscape changes the next couple months.

If a clear improvement isn't readily available, you are better off letting Sumlin stay and see if he can build up a young team sans QB controversy and with a little more quality SEC defensive depth. Otherwise you really are setting yourself up for a rerun of the Slocum aftermath.

What leads you to believe he will ever be more than an 8 or 9 win coach without a heisman winner at QB?

If we got 9-3 (6-2) this year then he's already got a shot at 10 wins. Based on the youth of this team I fully expect to be as good or better next year. So if he wins 9-10 this year, then I think we can match it next year. Back to back 10 win seasons would be fun.

Now I don't expect to win 9 this year. I think I am on board with 8. Wouldn't be shocked at 7.

I don't know about you, but I am not a BMA in the know with this kind of stuff.

Who's to say we don't have some semi-big name interested and ready to jump ship? Now I don't think Franklin or Peterson is that guy, but there have been other interesting names thrown out by folks who'd I would move on for.

If there is someone, the lid has been clamped down tight on that info.

As it should be since we just finished week 7.

Outside of Sumlin's agent, I don't think too much info is out there right now. You think someone like say Scott Frost wants it out there that he's gone after this year while his team is 5-0 (3-0) and ranked in the top 20

Charlie Mac was LSU's winningest coach but couldn't beat Bear Bryant. He had a 70% winning percentage over 17 seasons(!!!) but people grew tired of playing second fiddle to Bama.

Now it was a slightly different situation bc the committee did have someone in place to take over that was thought to be a homerun hire: Bo Rein. Unfortunately he died on a plane crash before he ever coached a game at LSU (there is a 30 for 30 on this I belive). So the situation isn't exactly the same.

But LSU was around a 50% winning team for the next 3 years under Stovall, then jumped up to 75% under Archer including one conference title for three years before settling back to 60% or lower win percentage for the next decade and a half (including the lowest of the low Curley Hallman).

We basically pulled a Tennessee before it was cool. I am a little afraid we did the same with Les Miles but even worse as we did not have "A guy" in place to replace him.

BTW is Chad Morris not a guy you would be happy with? (You being Ag fans in general)

Chad Morris would be our fallback. Some would be happy, some would be okay, and some would be pissed. I think we could do a lot worse.

Umm... in 2015 Alabama lost at home to Ole Miss. Guess what happened after that?

The next time Ole Miss went to Bryant Denney, they lost 66-3.

SMU is a 15 minute walk across the highway from me and I have a bunch of SMU alumni in the family so I've seen my fair share of Pony football the last 9 years.

Having seen what June Jones did to them once he didn't get the Arizona State job and how Morris has slowly but surely brought them back up I'm completely fine with him getting the gig if Sumlin is no longer HC.
