Sumlin is in the crosshairs. Needs a chavisesque OC hire and we'll see how it goes

Spavital can not produce points unless he has a significant talent advantage over the defense. That's pretty clear, right? But just about any OC can pull that off.

I have no idea who should replace Spavital. But he has to go.

Honestly it's easier to find a good OC than a good DC. Sumlins just needs to pull the trigger.

What's with the love for Chad Morris other than the fact that he's a former aggie? He's 2-9 at smu.

I hindsight we dismissed 59-0 far too easily. Good coaches don't lose like that in year 3, period. We dismissed 8-4 with tGOAT college QB as well.

The writing has been on the wall and we ignored it.

SMU was absolutely abominable last year. Sure their record is awful this year too, but they've put up points and stayed competitive in a lot of games. It's obvious they've improved a lot.

I don't think we ignored it... Nothing we could do really. We couldn't run off a guy for any of that. Still can't. We had no choice but positivity.

Yalls program reminds me of ours right now, except y'all play in a tougher division. Both of us finally had a defense this season, but our offenses went to crap and if we had anything close to the offenses we've had in previous seasons we would have been incredibly competitive in every game. It's so frustrating.

Actually a lot of fans wanted Spav fired last year. 59-0 is a failure of defense and offense, and from that point on a lot of people gave up on Spav. Problem is you can't replace both coordinators in a year unless the head coach goes too, and at the time Spav was the lesser evil because the offense looked good against a Big 12 team in the bowl game.

Our magic pined for OC is coaching a different Big 12 team right now, and might burn our arse in a bowl game. We like Sumlin more than any of them, mostly because he is recruiting focused and a social networking wizard in an era when that really matters. But obviously patience is running out.

I think a lot of people have also been saying that 2016 is our magic year, and if this game leads to Spav getting canned I might be willing to drink that koolaid if we also end up with a top 15 class come NSD.

I will say though, seeing North Carolina do well makes me wonder if we made the wrong choice way back when.

I probably won't even try to predict who we beat and lose to next year and just safely predict 8-4

Hi Shane, care to predict next season?

And had a losing season.

Hopefully by the end of next season when we fire Sumlin there is an obvious replacement. I don't see one now.

If I were Sumlin I'd be campaigning hard as a MFer for the ND or Oregon jobs right now. After this year's bowl game, his contract has NO BUYOUT if other schools poach him. That makes hiring him cheaper than almost anyone else. Since he's never won less than 8 games here, he's still an attractive option to schools not familiar with his BS, and particularly to schools that don't have to play Alabama and LSU every year.

You may say "why not just let us fire him and then chill out and enjoy the $10-15 MM we'd owe him for nothing." But that's not how super-competitive high-profile coaches think. Getting fired makes you a loser. Leaving for the ND or Oregon job could be spun by him as "trading up."
