- A win is a win, especially over a top-20 conference title contender. LSU and MSU wish they could bitch about a win.

- We were clearly better than UCLA, even our makeshift OL played decent. And UCLA is a lot better than ASU last year. That's encouraging.

- That being said, the nuance of football continues to elude Sumlin. Not knowing when to us TOs, giving UCLA extra scoring chances with poor clock management, etc. You can blame the late play calling on Mazzone, but the fact is Sumlin's job is to go to his coordinators and tell them what to do in those situations.

- Trevor Knight is what he is, he's the guy we have three years of film on from OU. He isn't going to be anything more than average on a good day, his job is to limit turnovers and make plays when he can.

- Our entire team packed it in early in the 4th, which again calls into question coaching.

- Our defensive line is stacked. Garrett and Hall are known quantities, but KK and Hardreck Walker balled out as well.

- Our OL played average, which is better than expected. They didn't get dominated by a very good DL.

- Treyveon Williams is our best RB and the gap is pretty big

- Tyrell Dodson needs to be starting now, he was GREAT in his first action.

- We simply aren't going to move the ball against good defenses if we call the game like we did today. No other way to say it.

Overall a good win, but we could have made a real statement with a 2-3 score win by not letting up and having better game management. Lots to work on.

You are judging Trevor too harshly on his first game, remember he's rusty and everything is in the line for him. He fricks up and it's over forever, that's a lot of pressure

Give it a few games, you may be right but it's 50/50 you're wrong

That's about how I feel, but I'm really pissed off at that 4th quarter. We should have won by 3+ TDs. I would say it's a learning experience or some stupid shite but the fact is we saw it happening and barely did anything about it. We have the potential to be better than I originally thought, but damn we still do undisciplined bone-headed aggy shite.

Agree with most of what you said. I thought LB play looked better overall too. Was really encouraged by our OL run blocking, work to do in pass protection. Knight also shuffles back in the pocket under pressure.

Also Rosen is fricking legit. Loved beating him but he's a future top 5 pick for sure

He has the same problem McGee had: He can't step up in the pocket and instead runs himself backwards out of plays. He's also really, really bad at staring down receivers.

If he was a 4.4 guy with great running ability that would be fine, but he isn't a threat to gain more than 10-15 yards on a wide open read play or scramble. Nobody will be leaving passing lanes open to stop him from running.

It's the first game he's played in years, and if he fricks up once he knows his career is over

Let's see how he does after his cupcake

Roger,

Completely agree with your take including the follow on comment on Kinight channeling his inner McGee

Also, we learned Mazzone can go full retard. The end of half series was a joke. Then, he surpassed it in the 4th by going 3 and out in 3 consecutive series while gaining a collective 10 yards and rumning less than a minute off the clock.

He is weak and will cost us game. Plus, much like previous OC's, his field is limited to the sidelines.

Things I am surprised by:

- The OL was decent

- The LBer play was not bad

Things I wasn't surprised by at all that appearently a lot of people are:

- Mazzone isn't a great OC. He is competent, he knows what he is doing, his offense serves us better than Spav's identity-less mess because it can chew clock, but he's no genius and he's going to frustrate us all at times and we won't be winning due to any brilliance on his part.

- Basically the same for Knight. He isn't some transcendent QB talent who can put the team on his back. But, if he can be drilled to NOT go into Gunslinger Mode and just be an operator of the offense, he's fine. Not great, just ok, which is alright by me if we know who he is, how to use him, and what to expect. Watching him reminded me of McGee. A dude with no business in the NFL, but could have been a good COLLEGE QB had Fran not just used him as a battering ram.

I got to sit with the 12th man around the 45 yard line 5th row 2nd deck. This was the best Kyle field experience since Nebraska 2010. How did the 50k chanting sound on TV?

If those UCLA receivers don't have the drops, we are in full melt mode. I have not adjusted my expectations for this team at all. I think we win 8 games tops. Call me negative.

We're about what I expected us to be, but suddenly the Tennessee and LSU games look very winnable.

It appeared to me that for the first time in ages our linebackers were positioned to make plays. And they were. That was pleasing.

Still plenty of room for improvements, and I think we'll see it. Especially on defense. And I liked a whole lot of what I saw today from them.

I thought Ford showed he's our best RB.

This offense is better than last year's.
This defense is better than last year's.
I think we'll surprise some people.

- our offense can and will stall out at the worst times when we need it to close out a game just like previous years

- running game looked improved but still needs to get better for SEC play (primarily talking O-line here).

- T Knight needs to learn how to step up in he pocket and deal with pressure better, if he can, we can win some games we originally didn't think we could.

- Defense outside of a few bad plays looked good, should improve from last years improvement.

- F-22 Raptors are badass

- the 50 thousand chant sounded stupid.

All you newbies and new army punks, take note. This is the proper amount of sunshine. Roger is experienced. He knows how Aggy football can kick you in the taint and rake the balls every time. It had the perfect balance of bright side and criticism.

This is how you "Aggy football."

Great OP, Roger.
