rumblings that we're opening vs USCe next season in Columbia.

This would really suck. Likely a new QB getting their first start in an environment like that? And even without Clowney USC should be good next year

Yeah maybe a bit of mixed emotions on that one but figured several would cheer it, especially if it means we don't play Lamar. I think it would be a great opener.

It's been a while since we opened a season vs someone exciting (UF aside last year since it wasn't scheduled that way). I think it makes off-season more fun as right now we're all talking about 9/14 and the first two games are somewhat anticlimatic

Sounds like a potential Thursday night season opener. Starting on the road at the Cocks would be tough but it's at least guarenteed to be a high profile ESPN game.

Hopefully we dont simply move Lamar to the following weekend. I kind of want to replace them with Texas State just to get a Fran beat down in. But really, as long as its not an FCS team I'll be happy.

I'll take a shot and guess guess our 4th OOC game will be TCU with them getting a return game in '15. I'd have picked Tech but they would have to dump an OOC game to match up with us, most likely UTEP.

I'm also assuming we finish our contract with SMU and play two Metroplex games.

I'm sort of curious how they handle it. The first week CBS has no games so ESPN can put anyone anywhere. And this will be the opening weekend of SECN. That weekend games already set...

Bama vs WVU in Atlanta
LSU vs Wisky in Houston
Clemson @ Georgia

ABC/ESPN definitely own all three of these. I doubt ESPN would push the neutral site games to SECN because I'm sure the contracts state who airs it. And I don't think they'd push Clem-UGA there (think Clemson might balk until carriage). I think these 3 end up similar to the LSU, Bama, UGA games this year tv wise (5:30pm ESPN, 8pm ESPN, 7pm ABC)

So I think there is a reasonable chance that A&M @ USC may highlight the opening weekend of the SECN.

Notre Dame just moved their 2014 game with Temple to 2015. They still have one more game they need to move due to the 5 game a year ACC deal they made. The three teams that are most likely to get bumped according to FBSchedules are Rice, Purdue, and Northwestern.

All three have an open date Sept 13 and with the ND games scheduled as an away games for all 3 it might be easy to set something up with them.

With Northwestern we could perhaps set up a H&H w/the return game being at Wrigley. While I personally hate football games being played at baseball stadiums ESPN tends to eat them up as if they are some kind of super special event.

Rice would probably be happy take the money for another Kyle visit. It would be nice to pawn the Lamar game off on them as well.

Purdue seems the least likely even though with the connections to Sumlin I wouldn't say it's far fetched.

I would probably go to Chicago if we played Northwestern at Wrigley honestly.

Not playing Lamar next year would be a welcome development, even if it meant playing South Carolina in the opener. With Sumlin's offense, we'd beat Lamar so bad that the referees would feel forced to run the clock out in the fourth quarter. Aside from a guaranteed win, there is no upside to playing Lamar.

I cannot imagine that buying out of the contract to play Lamar would be too difficult or expensive.

Personally I couldn't care less if we play Lamar vs any other FCS team. I'd actually prefer a crappy FCS to a good one in Sam. You have nothing to gain from the game as it is so you want to make sure you blow them out badly, playing the 2 Time National Champ runner up FCS team doesn't score you any more points than playing the worst FCS team. It's a modified scrimmage either way. You need a few of those games as well because they are cheap buy outs. I bet we are paying Lamar well under $1 million, maybe even $500k. That saves us hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I also don't think once the new Kyle is finished there is going to be a bunch of extra seats. The demand is off the charts now and a nice new stadium attracts a whole new crowd. The problem in the past was you had crappy games in a crappy stadium that you couldn't even see the game in the seats they couldn't sell. We will still have some crap games but the stadium experience will be much better, even in the cheap seats, and the size of the market who want A&M tickets has exploded.

I do think we will see one quality Non Conference opponent as a regular addition to the schedule and we will likely play some neutral site games in some years as that seems to be the SEC thing to do.

That said, the real elephant in the room is still when the Texas series comes back. I know it is a tired subject but at some point it is going to happen. Really the big barrier right now is still one man, DeLoss Dodds. He is getting very old and is hanging by a thread to his job as it is. At some point he will leave (as likely will Mack and Powers) and the real reasons for us not playing each other will be gone. Even Loftin will be gone on our end so both sides will have fresh leadership. Texas needs that game badly, just look at their home schedule and how far they have fallen back in media attention. Long term they have only the RRS to really sell and that game is never at DKR, the occasional big OOC game really does nothing.

That game is also still very useful for us as well even though a lot of Ags will have trouble admitting it. Big time rivalry games are a selling point even if you lose. That would mean that EVERY year we would have Texas, LSU, and Alabama on the schedule and every other year we would play 2 of them at home. If we play Texas early season and keep LSU at the end it is a jumbo win because we would have big games spread all across our schedule and thus be in the national spotlight all season, it also virtually guarantees we sell out Kyle in season tickets for the forseeable future because people will pay big just for those games. Having that game annually gives us a leg up on LSU and Bama recruiting wise. It just makes way too much sense for A&M and Texas to play each other, to not do so just leaves millions on the table for both schools.

One last factor is the coming 9 game SEC conference schedule. It's pretty easy to read between the lines that starting in '16 that's what will happen.

I imagine we are paying Lamar around $200k actually. FCS games generally are $250-300k and Lamar is more desperate than most. We are paying lower level FBS schools around $1m (I think that's what we are paying Rice). FCS schools are far far cheaper.

Savannah State last year bought their way out of a buy-game at the last minute to go to FSU. It was well documented that the payout from FSU was $475k (ESPN did a piece on gameday about it in fact) and they forfeited the original game fee of $220k (to Northern Iowa). So for a net gain of $55k, they got shellacked by FSU. FCS games just aren't that expensive which is their primary appeal.

I think you are reading too hard. There are some pretty concrete reasons why it was voted down 13-1 this year. And there is no driving force mitigating any of those reasons just yet. A good number of schools are going to dig their heels against on this issue, us included.

I think right now the most likely changes to the 2016 schedule are going to be:

- no more FCS games (following B1G lead)
- requirement of Slive's suggestion of 10 BCS level games
- elimination of cross-div rivals other than UT-UA and AU-UGA (though Mizzou-Arky may complicate this)

But sometimes opinions can change rapidly and two real big potential movers are out there - the new playoff and a likely new SEC commissioner by 2016.

You think both these games will be on the respective campuses? I want to go to Va Tech if we play there

almost sure of it. We can't afford to play neutral site games with anyone as long as we are playing Arky in Jerryworld.

Just fyi, Va Tech was scheduled to play home vs Wisky in 16 and away in 17. So that's the likely set up with us. They don't have a marquee home game either year but they play @ ND in '16 so probably won't want to play @ ND and @ A&M in the same year.

I definitely want to see us play a PAC team soon but I like the idea of va tech. I haven't heard that rumor at all until reading just now
Also pumped about visiting SC to start next year, I hear they have some ladies who make the trip worth while

semi confirmed 2014

Aug. 28 - at South Carolina
Sept. 20 - at SMU
Sept. 27 - vs. Arkansas (Dallas)
Oct. 4 - at Mississippi State
Oct. 11 - vs. Ole Miss
Oct. 18 - at Alabama
Nov. 8 - at Auburn
Nov. 15 - vs. Missouri
Nov. 27 - vs. LSU

no offense to the Mizzou posters but I was hoping for a team other than y'all since we've already played so much as of late.

I wonder if Pinkel was lobbying hard to keep a foothold in Texas for one more year?
