I haz a sad. I was really looking forward to the Oregon series. I've always wanted to check out Autzen. Hopefully this isn't replaced with crap.

And why oh why must we play Lamar? Any low level FBS school would be better. North Texas, Texas State, Tulane, Tulsa, Colorado State...

Hell even a UTSA home and home would be better b/c we'd at least get a little more San Antonio exposure with it.

I know everyone loves to bash Byrne but basically every school has this issue. They try to schedule way out and then as it gets closer the schools mutually decide they don't want the game.

Nobody is bashing the way the system works. What we are bashing is Bill Byrne trying to hype this shite when their isn't even a fricking deal in place to play the games. He came out and basically said the deal was done the ink was dry and 5 years later oops.

yeah, I'm just saying that's standard. Every AD does it. We don't listen to every AD because wgaf so we hold it against Byrne.

But the job of an AD is to promote the program and almost all of them have supersized egos which means they promote themselves along with it. Don't think for a second Hyman won't do the same things. Maybe if Garnett reads this thread he can chime in but I've been told by TCU alums the guy is very good but also a first rate egomaniac.

I'd like to see series with any of the Pac-12 schools, especially Stanford/Cal/UCLA. The Mountain West or BYU wouldn't be bad either, although those might be more 2-for-1 or one-off games.

For me personally, since I have no connection with the ACC/B1G, none of those teams do anything for me. I guess Minnesota/Indiana would be bigger games than BYU, even though BYU has had a much better recent history.

Byrne didn't jump the gun on Oregon. There was a signed contract

Good find!

It sounds like Hyman might have cancelled the Oregon series, at least from what Zwenerman has reported.

You would think that since we had a signed contract, we would find a way to make it fit in our future schedule. It's a great game that fans would love to see. I understand it adds another difficult team to our schedule but we aren't Texas. We're not looking for the easiest route to the NC game.

Hyman has his own scheduling philosophy. He may not see value in Oregon. Or it may be as simple as the dates laid out aren't going to work with us - for instance if we always get Bama on the 3rd week, that's the same week Oregon was scheduled for.

We'll all just have to wait for the permanent schedule and to see where we go from here scheduling. He didn't schedule a lot of good games at USCe but they also already play Clemson annually and they weren't exactly a traditional power. I'm sure Sumlin will have tons of input too.

BZ is now reporting (on Twitter) that Hyman misspoke.

Eugene in '18
College Station in '19

So it appears Oregon is still on. Still leaves A&M in a lurch for the short term.

am I the only one that really wants to set up a home and home with ASU and AZ?

We already seem to be recruiting there and most of the kids there seem perfectly happy going out of state. I also think it is more a Western state than a West Coast state and many of the people there associate with Texas a great deal. OU has had a lot of success recruiting there for the same reasons imo. Maintaining a presence there as well as giving guys like Allen a chance to play in front of a hometown crowd would be a great fit.

UAz and AzSU would be great series. I am very pro playing Pac-12 schools.

This. Although really I am for playing any BCS conference schools that we haven't played in a long time. I would really enjoy UCLA, Stanford, Ohio State, or Florida State.

Texas A&M will play Texas-San Antonio in two non-conference football games in the next seven years, a source familiar with negotiations between the two schools told the American-Statesman.

The Aggies will play the Roadrunners in 2016 and again in 2019, the source said. Both games will be at Kyle Field in College Station. Neither will be the season-opener. A&M contacted UTSA officials in late spring and arranged the game over the last two months. The games will officially be announced this afternoon.

Lol, I was just looking at future schedules for Texas and Big 12 schools last night and thought UTSA might be a possible team with their free space.

Texas Tech, K-State, OU, and Okie Light seem to be the only Big 12 schools with open dates. TT and KSU seem to be the more likely candidates. OU has the open dates but also already has a game against a BCS power team almost every year.

Rice and Texas State also seemed liked schools that would have dates that could work with us. Texas State doesn't even have anyone set up after 2015.

that's not a bad deal. We need some games with no return date and I'd rather do a UTSA, UNM, UTEP, Rice type of game than an FCS game. It's looking like the 1st or 2nd weekend in Nov will be a non-conf weekend for us and most of the Big 5 conferences won't play OOC that late. So it's nice that we can work in these C-USA types in that window.

in Nov

2013 - UTEP
2014 - ULM
2015 - ?
2016 - UTSA
2017 - UNM
2018 - ?
2019 - UTSA

Like this a lot better than an FCS game. And it looks like with the 3 year gap there for UTSA that maybe we have another one of these 2-game deals for '15/'18 coming.

Larry Coker has them playing pretty tough for such a young program. They did beat Fran and Texas State last year.

Glad there's no return trip. UTSA's games are on the longhorn network.

that was only in 2011 when they were an independant FCS squad.

Last year most of their games were on ESPN3 (though it was possible since the WAC said LHN could air games) and this year most will be on Time Warner Sports Texas.

They are in CUSA now and their top 2 TV deals are with Fox Sports Media and CBS College Sports. That means the games could potentially air on Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports Net, and CBS Sports Net.

not sure if its Fox, CBS, or CUSA that has been selling additional games to CSS and Time Warner Sports.
