LB 2016? Really?

The 2012 Linebacker group was not deep at all.

There was a MASSIVE dropoff after Porter, Stewart and Jenkins.

Why do you think halfway through 2013 that neither Sean Porter nor Jonathan Stewart's backups retained their starting jobs after 2-3 games?

Or, putting it another way:

2016 2-deep

WILL: Richard Moore/Josh Walker
MIKE: Otaro Alaka/Tyrel Dodson
SAM: Shaan Washington/Claude George

2012 2-deep:

WILL: Steven Jenkins/Justin Bass
MIKE: Jonathan Stewart/Donnie Baggs
SAM: Sean Porter/Michael Richardson

Yeah that's absurd.

WR too. Evans alone makes the 2012 group better. No one in the 2016 group comes close to being as dominant as he was. And that group had outstanding hands. The last couple of years have been very poor in that category.

Depth is not that important when looking back at a team. Those 2012 LBs stayed healthy, so the lack of depth really didn't matter.

The 2016 group has zero proven SEC LBs. You have to do a ton of assuming (health and production) to say that group will be better.

The 2012 team had 6 first round picks and 3 top 10 guys (I believe). The 2016 LB group has proven absolutely nothing. As far as WRs, it's pretty even. Evans was a top 10 pick and the best WR in school history. Kirk has to take a big step this year to match him. Swope and Reynolds are different WRs but pretty equal honestly. RSJ is probably better than EZ as the third option, but not by a huge gap

The 2012 LBs are better, don't really see how this could be argued. Neither group is outstanding.

The difference is at QB and OL. Simply saying the 2012 team was better doesn't really do it justice. You have a Heisman winner vs Trevor Knight, and one of the best college OLs in modern history vs an average at best unit.

The 2012 D Line was arse for talent though. Sherm couldn't sign those highly recruited defensive players like D Mack to save his life.

The 2012 team also had a consensus All-American at DE.

Mike Evans shite all over everyone in college football. We could have him and some random smattering of our crappy WRs from the '90s and that group would still be better than what we have right now. Mike Evans was to college WR what Usain Bolt is to sprinting - he was an order of magnitude better than his competition and made everyone else seem mortal while he played with cheat codes. Kirk may get close, but it remains to be seen. RSJ is an overrated bust. Speedy is a druggie loser with a bad attitude. I don't think Reynolds is as good as Swope in the clutch.

I still want to know if Chill (or anyone else) would take the 2016 team over the 2012 team.

Anyone who says they would is outing themselves as a clear shill. I doubt there's anyone who would actually say that though.

Wow that is a dumb statement.

I think if Sumlin can get to 8 wins in the reg season, and avoid another recruiting meltdown, he should be retained. I don't know why anyone who remembers the Fran and Sherman eras would be turning up their nose at an 8-win floor...

Sorry but I respectfully disagree. This attitude is why we settle for mediocrity year after frickin year. This is the SEC and it is a war. If you want to win the SEC West, you have to be like Auburn....winning it all did not stop them from firing Chizik when he settled into mediocrity. We must have the same attitude if we truly want to win.

Manziel and Evans were special, but we are talking about team evaluations. This team is so much bigger and faster than that 2012 team and it isn't even close. I was out near the track for the Auburn game and we looked like a JV high school team compared to them.

This team actually looks like an SEC team.

The 2016 Defensive Line > The 2012 Defensive Line.

WDE - Myles Garrett > Damontre Moore
DT - Daylon Mack > Spencer Nealy
NT - Kingsley Keke > Kirby Ennis
SDE - Daeshon Hall >>> Julien Obioha

The 2016 Defensive Backfield is also better than the 2012 Defensive Backfield.

CB - Nick Harvey = Dustin Harris
FS - Armani Watts > Steven Terrell
SS - Justin Evans >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Howard Matthews
CB - Priest Willis > Deshazor Everett

DL and Safety are the two spots where 2016 shines.

Not ready to say on CB until we see them in action. No one has seen Priest Willis play CB so I don't know how people can say he's better or worse than Deshazor. But the 2012 CBs were probably replacement-level at best, so the 2016 group should be better

Half of our team were NFL draft picks and we beat Auburn so bad they had to implement a running clock in the second half.

You saying we looked like a JV team lines up perfectly with the other dumb stuff you say on here.

Dunning tweet

I'm thinking this probably isn't good for our expectations this year.

Sucks to hear, but safety is the one spot on the field we could absorb an injury. Don't think Dunning was higher than 4th safety or 3rd nickel, so this shouldn't alter expectations.
