I know many have the mindset of, "Its year 5, we should be winning championships". And I think at the beginning of a hire, that should be the mindset, but you have to adjust based on what has happened.

I almost stopped at this.... I hope you meant, it is year 5, we should be competing for championships.

A&M has had to completely retool for the SEC. Coaching staff, facilities, stadium, strength and conditioning, and recruiting. All of this is being accomplished in a state that doesn't have a strong tradition in the SEC and during a mini "golden era" in the SEC West.

You also have to understand that the SEC has special rules specifically to inhibit the quick rise of teams and maintain the status quo, that no other league does. Graduate transfer rules (limits to transfers within the SEC), college transfer rules (2-years of eligibility remaining), and JUCO (specific classes can't taken remotely), and scholarship limitations to name a few.

Doesn't matter. UCLA is a bunch of damn hippies. Auburn will flat out suck and probably get Malzahn fired. Bert? 5-0 Bert, sorry Brandon's brother ain't Brandon. Plus Skipper will trip somebody at the most inopportune time (you know this is true). UT is probably the most dangerous team A&M faces, but their coach is an idiot and the Hate will be back in the Hate Barn by then. Alabama? Phfft. What have they done lately? They're toast. MSU fans will be Cowboys fans - that's all they'll have to cling to. By the time we get to Ole Miss they'll be devastated by NCAA sanctions. LSU is a guaranteed win since SafetySam, Father of SafetySam, and I will be there. So... 12-0.

We lost both corners but nick Harvey allowed the lowest completion percentage in the nation last year.

He may not be a world beater, but with the DEs and safetys he's playing with he will be fine. Priest is essentially b will, long athletic raw press corner. Linebackers are bigger, healthy, and year 2. Our defense is good enough to win 9 games if we have even an average offense.

If you expect us to have a "good" running game then I am sorry. You will be let down. Expecting us to have a good ground game this year is just ridiculous imo. Nothing suggests that we should so that is why I say it's a ridiculous expectation. We have a young OL, new OC, play in the SECW (superb college d lines reside in that division) and our best playmakers are on the perimeter. Wanting us to return to having a premier passing attack on the other hand is not only reasonable but what I expect for this season. I believe Mazzone will get the ball into the wrs hands in space and we'll finally be able to show that we have one of the best receiving groups in the nation. We've claimed that for awhile and while we've had the talent to do so, we haven't produced the statistics, in conf play, to back it up. No one cares about what happens against little rock Arkansas and teams of that caliber. Anyways, I expect a 9+ win season.

The run game should be greatly improved.

1) Health- Tra Carson was the only scholarship running back last year...so we thought. He was a tough running 230 lbs back with a busted foot. He typically ran a 4.6, but he was probably even slower last year.

2) Size-A&M was super small in the middle last year. Stuckey, Cheeks, and Matthews avg. 300 lbs. I've seen bigger TX high school offensive lines. Whether you judge by size or ratings, the interior OL will be bigger and better this year on paper.

3) Talent- Again, we had a 3* back platooned by 2 walk-on backs. This year A&M has 5 backs rated 4/5 * by major recruiting agencies (Ford, White, Bussey, Boyd, and Williams) in addition to some talented walk-ons.

4) Scheme- A&M will have a scrambling QB with RPO concepts which should put defenses on their heels. Only Auburn has a similar scheme, so it will be difficult for most teams to adapt to it. I believe Speedy and Kirk may be utilized more too. The TE/HBs may be bigger passing threats too, which will complicate things for defenses. I expect to see A&M utilize linebackers and/or defensive linemen in the backfield on short yardage packages.

I expect our run game to look a lot like a perimeter passing game. High percentage passes, getting the ball in space. One thing that stood out about our receivers in '12 was their physical blocking. That group was proud of it. I get the feeling we'll be seeing that aggressive style again. I also expect to see some version of a read option with a QB who can hurt you with his legs and his feet. Allen could throw but wasn't a run threat. The midget could run but couldn't complete a PB&J if you dressed both sides for him. If Knight is accurate, this offense will give opposing DC's fits. We're going to run the ball, it just may not be 3 yards and a cloud of dust.

I agree with you. I see shades of 2012 with this team. We will have a QB who isn't afraid to run (Johnny really didn't want to run in 2013), competent to great running backs, and I think they will be able to take the top off of defenses with 4/5 WR sets should they utilize them regularly.

I may be WAY off on the win total but I do absolutely expect a competitive team that won't get blown out by anybody. I think this year will be fun.

This year....it's possible....that Texas A&M.....may be a PROBLEM

Because this isn't a "hit the floor" year. Whatever struggles we are facing this year are nothing compared to what we are facing say next year. This year we have:

-our most talented team in decades including a top 5 in draft DE
-a senior QB who has some experience and has beat Bama (showing his ceiling)
-we get Tenn, Ole Miss, and LSU at home (not that that means much under Sumlin)
I don't think this is "our most talented team in decades." Our entire offense is questionable. The O-Line is mostly new starters and the backfield is a black box of OU transfers that might be good or might suck. Knight had two years to replicate his Sugar Bowl performance against worse defenses so I'm not gonna crown him just yet. The WR corps is Kirk, Reynolds, and a lot of unfulfilled potential.

Our DL is great but we had turnover in the secondary and I'm gonna believe it when I see it when it comes to our LBs.

The ratings only go back to 2004 but it's the most talented roster since then. So more than a decade at least, and I think by highly recruiting talent you have to get back to the mid 90s to find a team with as many players highly recruited by big programs. That's where I get decades from.

Result remains to be seen.

No doubt this is one of the most talented teams. Not only has this staff recruited well, but they pulled in some excellent transfers (Priest Willis, Keith Ford, Kirk Merrit, and Trevor Knight). Even some of the walk-ons are rated. Even Shane Tripuka was an Under Armour All-American.

I don't care what the recruiting ratings say, this team isn't more talented than the 2012 team.

This year feels more in line with the 2010 team. I think that year is kind of a game plan for this year, except don't melt down at QB and don't get blown out in the bowl game.

So if you had your choice in personnel, you'd choose 2016 over 2012?
