I doubt Herman would turn down Texas even if Houston got into a Power 5.
I think he'd still go to UT, but in that scenario there is at least a chance that Tillman Fertita steps in and bankrolls a Herman salary of $7MM and he stays. But no chance of him staying if they are left out of the XII.

quote:idk. We have already seen them commit to their football program. I think it would be difficult to get Herman to move if UH gets into the big 12

When UH commits to their program, it still doesn't compare when the big boys do it.
Herman is the hottest coach there is. UH committed to him with 3 M (or was it less). tu settled on Strong as their like 7th choice with a 5 M salary. UH when all in and built a new stadium. It seats 40K and still is lacking in the premium seating category. tu has a 100K seat stadium with suites and a big arse screen. Even if we had real attendance #s they would top 40K vs the shitty Big 12 schedule.

Herman is making 2.8 and receives a 5m bonus (pretty sure this is right) if they get in a P5 conference. That probably makes him the 4th highest paid coach in Texas behind Stong Sumlin and Patterson but it's still a lot in the big scheme of things. We can argue about how big of a negative impact it would have but it's a negative to some degree
If we have our shite together UH doesn't concern me though. When we're a 7 or 8 win team or worse is when they would be taking recruits from us

True, but if adding UH turns the narrative into "The Big 12 is the SWC 2.0" then Texas, TCU and OU could take a reputational hit that we can take advantage of.
I think its still net negative, but its not all negative. The SEC selling point is going to shine bright no matter which scrubs the Big 12 is forced to add.

SEC value should stand on its own. I don't see it as a negative for A&M.
Big 12 will have to compete against UH moreso than A&M
