Did we do LSU a favor in the long term by stealing Chavis?

Dave Aranda is an incredibly bright, young coach who is the future of defense in college football. I have no doubt that Chavis would still be on that staff if he had remained. But Aranda is potentially the next head coach there. And at the very least he is a great coach for the next few years before jumping to a head coaching job or possibly an NFL job.

Can't say for certain. Let's give it some time. It definitely hasn't worked out for us thus far.

well we certainly didnt do them any favors by losing to them the last 2 years

He could be very good, but their talent also made Chief look excellent. You're buying into the same hype that made us think we were getting a top 3 or 4 DC in CFB. It's been one year and he stepped into a defense with NFL talent across the board. Wisconsin's D basically kept it status quo with him gone as well.

More revisionist history. Remember that they didn't hire Arranda after Chavis, they were stuck with Steele.
I'm still surprised at these posts. A&M was picked to finish 6-6 and we ended the season 8-4 and 1 pt. away from the Sugar Bowl. Most had LSU picked to play in the Championship (SEC and CFP) and they finished 7-4.

No excuse losing to MSST and Ole Miss. And on tRant season prediction thread most of us had A&M going 9-3 or 10-2.

Yeah most ags and those who follow the team closest picked 9 to 10 wins.
Sometimes its not about the number of wins either.

Barely exceeding low expectations also isn't something that should be celebrated. But these are all things 99% of the folks who post on here know

You're living in this fantasy world where preseason rankings mean something. They don't mean shite.
Sure, it's great to talk about "what if" and speculate, but You don't base your real expectations on some preseason narrative from who the frick thinks they know how the games will play out's article on texags.
I almost literally cannot believe so many orherwise intelligent people fall for this absolute nonsense. It literally means nothing.
You set/adjust your expectations on the real product and results ON THE FIELD.
Beating ucla, auburn, Arkansas made us reasonably expect to beat a VISIBLY bad State and OM.
Further results ON THE FIELD back up the fact that we are highly pissed at having lost those two games. Can I put it any clearer?

No, most Ags that follow the team closely had 7-8 wins. A couple of us got blasted for thinking the Ags could maybe win 9-10 after the UCLA win.
Most didn't believe we had an OL or QB going into this season. We didn't have proven RB, LBs, or CBs. People were getting ridiculed on the board for getting our hopes up with everybodies unwanted "trash" (T. Knight, K. Ford, and P. Willis).

Why wouldn't you expect a pubes clone to spin on behalf of a bad coach who happens to be his mentor's drinking buddy?

This is absolute bull crap and you know it.
Even if you believed this bull, you would need to adjust it for the players you had on the field.
A&M was the walking wounded by game 5 (USC). They were already holding Garrett, RSJ, Speedy, and London. Justin Evans was pretty beat up too. Watts and Willis were out shortly after and never truly recovered. A&M started rolling with a 0-star QB against MSU and Ole Miss after Knight went down. Wilson, Harvey, and Watts didn't even suit up the game before LSU.
Saw Chavis rolling out some kids that hadn't played all season during LSU game (D. Thomas, L. Durham, freshman DBs, etc...).
Sure you didn't adjust expectations for that...

This is what I remember. Very few people picked 10+ wins.

OM lost their qb and half heir team was infirmed. And you're trying to tell me that missing 5 guys makes us a worse team talent wise than State?! Ha!
Absolute bull crap?
Dude. I don't even know how to find any common ground with you. You are living in a parallel universe where hypotheticals have real world implications. I can't even process your mode of thinking.

Like I said, a pubes clone.

The problem is we lost to Ole Miss AND Mississippi St which are both bad teams. We beat either and we are in the Sugar Bowl. Hard not to feel disappointed.

Look at the season predictions PRE UCLA on tRant. By the time fall camp was over and media had made their rounds, a lot of national media was starting to pump us as a 10 win, darkhorse contender in the SEC.
The general negativity was earlier, and mostly based on things that would have no impact on the season (qb transfers and chalk talk).
The expectations before the season don't mean anything anyway. We were #4 in the playoff and limped to the finish line. We went 0 for Mississippi, limped past UTSA, and got boat raced by LSU with 4 of their top 5 players out. tLandmass finished the season 7-13 (not including themselves), with us being two of their wins.

I can't find the preseason prediction thread. Does anyone recall what it was titled?
