The thread on the rant got me wondering how Christensen's track record looks like.
2014 - Utah - OC/TE
YPG: 371.3 (87th)
PPG: 29.2 (51st)
YPC: 4.3 (59th)
RPG: 43.2 (31st)
RYPG: 186.4 (41st)
SR Tonga (TE): 30-391-4
He did okay at Utah. Not great, not bad. Good production from his TE.
2009 to 2013 - Wyoming - HC
YPG: 229 (112), 289.3 (117), 362.9 (78), 402 (56), 475.9 (19)
PPG: 17.4 (108), 18.4 (110), 23.5 (80), 27.3 (66), 30.9 (43)
I am really impressed with how he took one of the worst offenses in football and made it very successful.
2001 to 2008 - Missouri - OC (data starts in 2003)
YPG: 394.7 (41), 373.6 (55), 429.8 (25), 412 (11), 483.3 (5), 475.8 (9)
PPG: 30.2 (28), 23.3 (76), 30.8 (33), 28.7 (25), 40 (6), 41.5 (7)
YPC: 5.6 (2), 4 (57), 4.8 (20), 4.0 (52), 4.5 (37), 5 (16)
RPG: 42.9 (25), 41.5 (32), 42.7 (20), 34.8 (56), 38.1 (66), 29.3 (113)
RYPG: 238.8 (8), 165 (44), 205.2 (14), 140.6 (50), 171.3 (42), 145.9 (55)
This confirms what I expected. He's a hell of an OC. The #s back it up. He's not elite, but we have a gem at OL/RGC that should be an OC somewhere else. 6 out his 7 years at OC (03-08, 14) He's had more rush attempts per game that A&M did last year. The only year he had fewer he had the 7 offense in the nation with an elite passing attack.

I hope our fans don't expect an immediate 180 change in philosophy and offensive style. I think we will be better running the ball and do it more but I don't think we have the personnel to fully run what Christensen probably wants to do

DC is an excellent hire. I mean he's an absolute home run. It got a little lost in the Chavis hire

Yeah I loved it. I was a huge huge fan of those Mizzou offenses when he was there. I would love if we looked more like those down the road, but I know we probably don't have the TEs to really do that this year which is why we've been after so many. I hope we can get better running the ball this year just through improvement in technique and some more slight changes in philosophy

Honestly don't see how the offseason moves could have went any better.

I like how bright the future looks at TE.
2015 Jordan Davis, 6'4", 255, 4 star ranked 10th @ TE
2016 Zarrian Holcombe, 6'5", 215, 3 star ranked 12th @ TE
2016 Irvin Smith, 6'4" 230, 3 star ranked 22nd @ TE. His ranking is down right terrible. Dude can go just about anywhere in the nation.

Yeah I am pumped about the future at that spot and the role those guys will play with Christensen in the fold now. When Mizzou had Coffman and Rucker on the field at the same time wreaking havoc it was pretty to watch

Dave Christensen's hire is right up there with Chavis in my opinion.
I'm totally geeked-out about him.
He is a hard-nosed guy (check!) who'll make our O-line better right away (check!) who has a wealth of experience (check!) who ran an offense at Mizzou that I loved that was similar to ours stylistically and philosophically but with a better running game and much more involvement from the TE (check!) and he's 100% ready to step in as OC should Sumlin need to replace Coach Bubble-Screen mid-season (check!)

If I recall correctly he was with the team for the bowl game.

Greg McElroy just called DC a amssively underrated hire and one of the best hires in the SEC. Went on to say Christensen is the reason he thinks A&M will be a surprise team this year

That is great to hear. McElroy strikes me as one who knows what he is talking about when he makes statements like these. He seemed really good last year on the pre game shows too.

Yeah I like McElroy too. He's very enthusiastic about what he does (almost to a fault ) and knows his shite.

Nothing satisfies quite like kicking in the door and money whipping LSU's best coach. While their fans are on this site laughing and pointing saying "no way our top in the NCAA DC would ever leave LSU for Aggy"
And then he was ours

Such a scrumptious offseason morsel

It's plenty obvious that we need to be more balanced. A pure air raid doesn't work unless you have Manziel.
Posted on 7/13/15 at 5:03 pm to TeLeFaWx
Yeah you need a ground game of some sort. Be it running backs or a QB who is a huge part of the rushing game.
Posted on 7/13/15 at 5:04 pm to TeLeFaWx
Manziel? Perfect for the air raid?
Johnny was more a run and shoot.
Kyle Allen should be much better suited for an air raid with his arm and accuracy.
But i don't think we ever go there in the SEC. This isn't Conf USA and one dimensional will catch up to you

Kyle Allen makes slow reads (as a freshman) but most of all has a long release. He's not a typical air raid QB from a physical tools standpoint. His reads should be much improved in year 2.
Johnny was great at getting the ball out quickly, his issue was that he refused to read past the second receiver, if he made it that far, before taking off.

Definitely excited about the Christensen hire. Expecting to see toughness in the running game. Our OL should benefit greatly.
I remember Christensen from his days at Wyoming. They fought hard. The fact that he was successful as OC at Mizzou only reinforces his football pedigree.
