I want an coach that can make us an elite team in the SEC West.

The whole "the coach needs to understand the SEC!" thing is overrated. Quality coaching is quality coaching wherever it's done.

Gundy has put offensive linemen in the NFL. He's committed to the run game. He usually fields competent defenses (not consistently due to recruiting difficulties, but he's had a fair number of them). He'd do fine in the SEC.

We certainly haven't, and Gundy is just a white version of Sumlin, give or take some minor playbook differences. He would do just as bad as Sumlin has here.

I'm sorry but this shows that you haven't done an ounce of research. Gundy is not a "defense is an afterthought" coach.

Oklahoma State Defensive Efficiency
2010: 27
2011: 9
2012: 28
2013: 4
2014: 56
2015: 42
2016: 49

Those numbers aren't across-the-board elite, but even the worst one is okay, and the best couple are in fact elite. His offenses are balanced and built around solid offensive lines.

Comparing him to Sumlin is a freaking joke. Gundy is a far superior coach and would outperform Sumlin by a wide margin if he were given the reins.

And neither are Sumlin's. You win the SEC with solid defenses, not so-so defenses.

Oklahoma State Total Defense:
2016: #92
2015: #100
2014: #93
2013: #53
2012: #82
2011: #107
2010: #88
2009: #31
2008: #94

Oklahoma State Scoring Defense:
2016: #51
2015: #88
2014: #94
2013: #19
2012: #64
2011: #61
2010: #61
2009: #31
2008: #77

Just one good year of scoring defense.

WHITE. SUMLIN.

Also let's not forget the fact that Sumlin beat Gundy with his Cougar High squad.

They're equivalents. 'Outscore your opponent' mentality.

Total defense and scoring defense are bum stats because they don't account for pace in any way. If Bama plays LSU, both teams will get less possessions, so of course the score will be lower than 2 hurry up offense teams playing against one another. That's why defensive efficiency is a much better stat.

If you want to focus on points, look at points per possession. There's little merit in comparing the points surrendered by a defense that faced 10 possessions and one that faced 15.

I hope to God our program isn't making decisions based on things like total defense.

So you're telling me his defenses still suck any way you look at them?

Two top ten defenses and two more top thirty defenses in the last seven years does not suck, especially at Oklahoma freaking State.

I'm not saying he's a Saban or Miles, but it's plainly obvious that he values defense, doesn't see it as an afterthought, and has had success getting it to a reasonably high level in his program.

Sorry, but I'm not buying that. Oklahoma State isn't getting subpart talent like many of you make it out to be. Is it elite? No, but it isn't terrible either. Okie Lite can have good defenses (just like we can), but it's not Gundy's priority (just like it isn't Sumlin's either). Sumlin/Gundy are offense first, defense later type of guys. Outscoring opponents is their priority and that won't cut it in the SEC.

Also, just because it's Okie Lite doesn't mean you can't build good defenses. Boston College, Virginia Tech, and San Diego State are proof of that. Gundy is nothing special and won't succeed in the SEC like many of you believe.

And just for reference, Kevin Sumlin beat one of Gundy's alleged "does not suck" top 30ish defenses back in 2009.

Cal just fired Dykes. Could Chip Kelly go there?

Or... ...would they... ...end up with... ...Jake Spavital?

Okie Lite lost to Central Michigan this year...at home. BS last play or not, that shite happened. You think anybody on this board would ever, EVER forget/forgive a Sumlin loss to CMU?

Dabo? He hasn't even won a national championship.

That box has been officially checked.

Can't be much worse than losing to two sub .500 Mississippi schools in the same season....

Losing to just one mississippi school at Texas A&M should be on par with ok st losing to a michigan directional.

Yep. Hats off to dabo. Had a hell of a game plan and his coordinators did a great job of applying it.

At this point I'd rather have Dabo than Meyer, he seems to have class and appears to not be a lying pos.

pass on Kelly though he would be an upgrade on Stumblin. Venables or Petersen or Morris (Aggie Jesus) are more likely.
