Can't put anything together in the NFL. Not almost, maybe next year, or if the ball rolled differently... NO, dude flat out SUCKS at coaching in the NFL, where it's pretty much an x's and o's chess match and he's proven he can't play.

Oregon... ok, he did well. But did they even field a defense those years? And we know what happened when he played a real defense... we play them nearly every weekend.

I say pass on Chip, he's not even fools gold, he's more like a landscaping rock at this point, imho.

In 2010 his team held the Auburn offense to the lowest point totals that season with barely any 4 or 5 star defensive talent on the roster.

I don't know where I stand on Chip. On paper he is exactly what we need- a big splash name to push back on the out-of-state exodus happening in recruiting. But the flip side is he supposedly hates recruiting, which is why he paid that guy and got in trouble.

I think Chip plus a rockstar staff would change our lives, but that is a tall order.

all HS kids know about Chip Kelly is he's not a good NFL coach. He'll have to actually build an image of greatness like Saban did when he came back to college. I'm not sure he's got that kinda motivation.

Rock stars don't last long as coordinators, does Kelly have the eye and the intuition to keep the status quo like Saban does?

I'm not sure why how he coached in the NFL matters. Spurrier was atrocious, Saban was average to below average. Kelly's record in Philly was much better than both of those guys, but we wouldn't be hiring him to coach an NFL team so who cares.

Most teams lost to the top notch SEC teams back then. The SEC now isn't what it was back in 2010/2011 in case you didn't notice. He also recruited Texas very well when he was at Oregon and would be able to establish that as the recruiting base.

He was 46-7 with three conference titles, four BCS bow appearances including one NC game appearance in four seasons. Give him money to put together a top defensive staff and I don't think there's a better option that's readily available.

I know that we won't do it though so it's all useless speculation. He will end up at Tennessee I think.

I think it is telling by how bad he wants to be in the NFL. He won't have a choice soon enough unless he hates it so much he would rather be a position coach or coordinator in the league.

True, but we're in the SEC

Seen more than one Duck poster say it wasn't the recruiting and dealing with kids and parents he hating nearly as much as dealing with boosters, if that's a fact, there's no way I ever see him in CS. There are way worst hires available and well you know......

Ya, I have heard that as well. That eliminates him from most big programs.

The games are totally different and I'm not sure why anyone would hold this year in San Fran against him when that roster was so painfully bad. Nobody is winning with a QB who is more interested in protesting things that he can't even fully articulate why he is protesting.

agree. But even Chip's best teams couldn't beat physical SEC teams Auburn and LSU.

When he was at Oregon, his defensive efficiency stats were solid, though not great.

Not sure I buy the "his offense wouldn't work in the SEC" line. Yes, he struggled against the SEC, but remember that 1) while his recruiting was solid, it was never great, so he never had a kickass OL and 2) his offense specifically struggled running inside against elite SEC DLs. That Auburn defense was merely solid, but their DTs were awesome. And then 2011 LSU was freaking awesome at every position.

If you put Kelly in the middle of Texas and let him assemble a more talented OL, I think a lot of the issues would disappear.

Chip Kelly is precisely the coach that our decision makers would NEVER hire and I don't necessarily think he'd do well at A&M either.

now gundy would be interesting. i could be talked into gundy over kelly i think. these would all be great hires if we were still in the big 12, but i don't know how well they would do in the sec west.

I'd hope they wouldn't be desperate enough to hire a guy who already has one show cause under his belt.

As toothless as the NCAA is, there's no amount of t-sip meddling that would put us in any serious trouble without shining the light into their double standard of their treatment of North Carolina, Ole Miss, et. al.
