yes absolutely. If Chavis had not been hired, Foster was our guy.

"agreement in principle" was the term quoted to me.
Roger had better sources in that dark period than I did for sure. He called Chavis about a week before I heard anything. I pretty much dismissed his post on here about it because it seemed so unlikely

FWIW, my friend in the AD who gave me all the Chavis info has said that from May to July Sumlin, Christensen and Spav have met personally with multiple offensive coaches from the Pac-12, ACC and American conference to swap ideas and Chavis has been in on dozens of offensive meetings to point out ways teams slowed our offense.
Two names he specifically threw out regarding meetings were Rich Rodriguez and Bobby Petrino. RR apparently gave them everything he had on Arizona State.

Bobby Petrino is an arse, but that man knows him some offensive football. He's probably going to be glued to the set when we play Arky.

Yeah it's been reported that foster was it until the Chavis move gained traction. I like foster a lot, and genuinely Chavis is the only move that could have been better.

I creamed my pantaloons when I heard it was Chavis.
Growing up I never would have thought in a million years that we would be in the SEC, have coaches like Sumlin & Chavis, have a player win a Heisman, build a half billion dollar stadium...and be able to witness it all first hand as a student.
I'd like to think it's God's way of paying us all back for suffering through the Fran years.
Thankfully, I wasn't old enough to drink back then.
Growing up I never would have thought in a million years that we would be in the SEC, have coaches like Sumlin & Chavis, have a player win a Heisman, build a half billion dollar stadium...and be able to witness it all first hand as a student.
I'd like to think it's God's way of paying us all back for suffering through the Fran years.

Dude, for your sake, I hope you get to see a championship as a student. That '07 season was magical. Went to every game outside of Kentucky that year (which we lost in lexington 
).
Was able to get student tickets to the SEC champ and the nat'l champ game and was able to take my dad. Honestly, best memory of that season was my pops and I decided to stay in Auburn, Al instead of Atlanta bc my dad had to get back to work at like midnight the day after. We were driving back to Auburn and stopped at this little roadside diner that had this small box TV and the Pitt-WVU game was on. My dad and I closed that place down watching Pitt upset WVU and knowing LSU would get to play for a nat'l title again.

Yeah, coaches talk for sure. And I think they are more interwoven that a lot of people realize. Coaches hop jobs to move up the ladder and to get to this level, they cross paths in a million different ways not even counting conferences and the like.
For instance, just vs ASU:
- Sumlin and Graham faced off three times in CUSA when Graham was at Tulsa and Sumlin obviously at Houston. But they also squared off in 2007 when Sumlin was the co-OC at OU.
- in 2008, Jake Spavital was an OCQ for Graham and prepped Tulsa to play Sumlin's UH (the OC on that Tulsa team was Gus Malzahn btw)
- in 2009, Spav was a GA for UH and prepped them to face Graham's Tulsa
- in 2010, Spav was a GA for OSU when they played Graham's Tulsa
- in 2011, Spav was QB coach for WVU who played Graham's Pitt
- last year, Christensen was OC for Utah as they took on ASU. I don't know but I certainly wouldn't be surprised if they squared off somewhere during his Mizzou tenure
- this past off-season, Graham hired Shawn Slocum, son of RC and former A&M assistant who worked with Sumlin at A&M during his first tenure
The coaches in this game have a host of history and wealth of knowledge on each other. But they've also worked with, are friends with, talk frequently with, other coaches that have coached both with and against each other. It's going to be really tough to surprise each other. And this isn't even an inbred conference game
