A man accused of removing signs at a Metairie abortion clinic was arrested and booked with committing a hate crime. William Kennedy, 27, of 5816 Ruth St., Metairie, was also booked with simple criminal damage to property valued between $500 to $50,000, according to a Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office arrest report.
quote:

An employee of the clinic said that on the video surveillance footage, Kennedy “looked like a really angry young man.” The employee spoke to the New Orleans Advocate but declined to give her name or position at the clinic. “He just jumped around and really looked angry,” she told the Advocate. “He actually scared me.”

The clinic employee added that Kennedy had been accused of pulling down a sign on another side of the clinic in May. “Because he’d been by twice, next time I was afraid that he would come while we were all here,” the employee said.
quote:

the hate crime law also makes it illegal to commit a crime against a person and property "because of actual or perceived membership or service in, or employment with, an organization," the statute reads. The definition for an organization includes corporations, companies, partnerships or associations.

Odd. His dad is the most kind-hearted soft spoken guy. And he was that way long before Parkinson's.

It really is thrown around waaaay too much. Louisiana can use whatever terminology they want, but this definition of hate crime covers so much that it essentially loses all meaning. If it doesn't lose all meaning, it becomes a club to whack disfavored groups.

Eh I mean it's not like his kid was doing anything abhorrent or awful. He just pulled down a few signs. Really not that big a deal.

"it's not like his kid was doing anything abhorrent or awful." Yeah, like he's not doing anything like what's going on inside that clinic....

I'm with you and appreciate your pointing that out. Didn't mean to say that there was hate involved inside those clinics on the part of mothers who go there. The abhorrent and awful thing is what's crazy. There's more than signs being attacked at that clinic. Just that it's a fricked up story and action at a fricked up clinic. Whole thing looks fricked up, like you said.

He sounds like he needs counseling, but I really don't see what the big deal is. He just pulled some signs down and we're calling it a hate crime?

As far as I'm concerned, if someone takes no issue with abortion but turns around calls someone who attacks property a hateful criminal with no moral compass they can get fricked.

That's funny. But I don't think they hate the babies. It's a bad thing all the way around. No one wins from this. Well, no one except PP.

I have always acknowledged the good PP does for women's health apart from abortion in general and realize there are some legitimate reasons to perform/consider abortion, but I am about at my end with them. If even half of what is alleged in those videos is true, there is no excuse for them to receive federal funding.

Hate Crime legislation is retarded. So if I shoot my neighbor over not returning my lawnmower, it's less bad than shooting him for being black? Is he less injured based on my motivation? Am I less of a jackass if it's the first one?
