Hi,
We are creating this to raise money for the surviving children of Dawn and Antonio Armstrong. Dawn and Antonio were amazing people....full of love for each other, their kids, their friends and their community. Please help their family get through this tragic event by contributing in any way you can...no amount is too small. Let's rally around this family and show them how much we loved Dawn and Antonio, and that we will miss them and their big hearts dearly. Thank you so much for your support.

I know this isn't a PC question, but they are removing the killer as one of the recipients, correct?

I can't answer that; I honestly don't know. Where it says the funds are for the surviving children, I assume that means for Josh and Kayra; not for AJ's legal fund. But I'm not even sure how I feel about that (maybe AJ needs medical help?). That's certainly an individual call on your part.

I don't need to tell y'all this--most of you likely know how amazing Antonio was--but I was just talking to a good girlfriend of mine whose sons also go to Kincaid (where AJ attended before he appeared to spiral downwards). She reminded me of the countless times Antonio and Dawn were active at school, and with the team. They were the idyllic loving and supportive parents. My friend's boys are really shaken--not so much that it happened, but that someone would do this to Antonio. "I cannot tell you how this man made me feel every time I saw him. He genuinely cared about my boys and continually encouraged them to be their best in every way. He made a difference in their life. His example reminds me, and encourages me to be a better person."

Again, your question is an absolutely legit one.

I ended up making a donation, not knowing how the funds are being earmarked. But I made it memory of Antonio. Hopefully it will help to ease the burden of someone in his family, somewhere down the line.

Update from the GoFundMe page:

Hi everyone. Thanks so much for your support for the Armstrong family. I just wanted to clarify that I will not have access to ANY funds and that the account will be linked to the executor of the estate when I receive determination of who that person is...it is devastating that we lost these two wonderful people, but am thankful this community is here to support the family.
Best,
Michele

Former Texas A&M football lettermen and 1994 first-team Associated Press All-American Antonio Armstrong and wife, Dawn, passed away Friday in Houston.

Armstrong, a linebacker from Houston Kashmere High School, lettered for the Aggies from 1991-94 and was a two-time All-Southwest Conference selection. He earned All-America honors and was named a semifinalist for the Butkus Award as senior after leading the SWC in quarterback sacks and tackles for loss.

Statement from former Texas A&M head coach R.C. Slocum, who coached Armstrong at Texas A&M:
“Antonio was a special young man. He was an All-American and an outstanding player, but he was an even better person. He was such a positive influence on his teammates. He always had a great big smile and was a joy to coach.”

Armstrong’s Texas A&M career recap:
Antonio Armstrong ’91, ’92, ’93, ’94
Was a cornerstone of the Texas A&M Wrecking Crew defense for four seasons from 1991-94 … Earned first-team Associated Press All-America honors as a linebacker as a senior in 1994 and was a semifinalist for the Butkus Award, which is given annually to college football’s top linebacker … earned first-team All-Southwest Conference honors in 1993 and 1994 … Earned Defensive Player of the Game honors in the 1994 Cotton Bowl (vs. Notre Dame) … was drafted in the sixth round of the NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers in 1995 … Armstrong never lost a game on Kyle Field and helped the Aggies extend the nation’s then-longest home winning streak to 26 games … Armstrong led the SWC in QB sacks and tackles for losses as a senior in 1994 … finished his career with 154 total tackles, including 18 QB sacks and 31 total tackles for loss of yardage.
