I'm going to be the wet blanket here.

If BF is pissed, they are dumb.
If TCU is pissed, they are dumb.
If OSU is pissed, they are dumb.

They all face each other in the coming weeks. Assuming one of the three comes out undefeated, they are sitting pretty to go into the playoffs. If all have a loss, they are likely screwed.

I'd be happy as hell with those current rankings if I was a fan of one of the three.

They could come out undefeated and still not make it. Playing 13 games (conference championship game) is way better than the 12 games a big 12 school plays. In my eyes, a 12-1 Alabama is in over an undefeated 12-0 Baylor.

Baylor's problem is that last year the committee came right out and said that Baylor needs a tougher non-conference schedule if they're not going to play a championship game in the B12 and Baylor actually played an easier OOC schedule this year than last. The committee is openly not happy with them. So this whole deal isn't taking place in a vacuum. The committee is taking a side on the subject of Baylor's schedule - they're out to make a statement to everyone at Baylor's expense.

As for Art's talking points, they all melt in light of the fact that the average defense they've played is #115. I don't care about travel distances or margins of victory... they played defenses that average out to be #115. Meaning we STILL don't really know anything about them this year, but just going on history we DO know that they tend to fold when they finally play a real defense, so why expect this year to be any different? The teams ahead of them in the schedule allow a lot of yards as well, so that #115 rank for opposing defenses isn't going to improve very much by the end of the season. I think they could finish undefeated and still be left out. If LSU or Bama wins out and Notre Dame wins out, you're looking at Michigan State/tOSU, LSU/Bama, Clemson, & Notre Dame. The committee, with it's open, well-earned grudge against Baylor, isn't letting them jump any of those teams.

The only real big wrench in that is if Clemson loses to FSU, which we'll know after this weekend. After that, they play Wake, SCAR, and someone else weak, which they'll mow over, then UNC in the championship game, which they are superior to in terms of talent and will likely beat. So if Clemson beats FSU, we can pretty much pencil them in as taking a spot from Baylor. ND's schedule from here out isn't easy though - they have to play a 6-2 Pitt team that's likely finish no worse than 8 wins and Stanford squad that's won 7 in row right now, but if they can pull it off, the side-effect of that schedule being respectable is that, given their name-power, they won't be left out. The other spots are then the Big 10 winner and the SEC champ if it is 1-loss. I don't see any way for Baylor to get in given those circumstances and the committee's pre-existing vocal lack of respect for them.

Baylor's problem is Briles is going for the playoff spot in way that makes it harder than it has to be.

His entire idea is that going undefeated as a member of the Big 12 will get them in. It's likely a true theory. Loading up on cream puffs in non-con makes that goal much easier to attain. So on it's face, it seems like a good plan.

The problem is that if that is the route he is going to go they 100% have to go undefeated or they are almost always going to be the first team eliminated for consideration. Another thing is that it's incredibly difficult to go undefeated regardless of what conference you are in. Usually, you only get one, maybe two major conference unbeaten teams at the end of the year. It's rare enough that constantly having to decide between once beaten teams was one of the major sources of contention w/the BCS system.

In taking the path of least resistance Briles is also taking more likely to lead to failure. They don't even really have to schedule the top teams of P5 conferences to get credit. They very likely could set up games with mid tier P5 schools like Minnesota or even do a kickoff game against a school like Arizona State. They would get credit for that even if they ended up being 8 win or so squads. Instead, this is what they have for the future...

So a Duke team that I'm sure they expect to be terrible once the game happens and Utah 8 years from now.

It's like they are giving the middle finger to committee.

Yup, and the committee might give it right back. Their schedule is set up for failure. If they could convince Bowlsby to rearrange their existing schedule a bit they'd be much better off. Say TCU and/or Oklahoma in September/October. Then all the cries about their awful schedule wouldn't be so loud. And they might even recover from an early-season loss. As is, one loss and they're toast.

Personally I'm more worried about Ole Miss winning out and all the laughing being directed at the SEC.

Exactly. They could schedule Oregon State one year and Indiana another and still get credit. They don't have to have a power match-up between themselves and Florida to be seen as legitimate. It's not having power-5 teams at all and scheduling two AA teams instead that the committee dislikes. They're literally playing Jerry Falwell University and UTSA one year and Incarnate Word the next. Sam Houston beat Incarnate Word by over 50 points this year. That's how completely out of wack they are playing Baylor. Ricky Williams coaches there. C'mon. It's absurd.

Art Briles was widely regarded as unscrupulous when he was coaching at Stephenville HS. Don't doubt that his reputation has preceded him with the committee. They're aware that he's trying to game the system and don't like it.

Its totally called for since they are faux Baptists. The shite I've seen and heard from their campus is terrible. Bunch of dumb privileged, racist fricks can go suck a bag of dicks. I've even met some of their former players who feel the same way.
