We need a defensive minded coach to win in the SEC. Chip Kelly won a million years ago before anybody ran no huddle spread concepts and he cheats (and worse, he gets caught)...today the spread is everywhere and is unlikely to get you the wins he did, especially in the SEC. We need a defensive minded HC that will stress running the ball and stopping the run for us to win in this conference.
Tell me the 3 best defensive head coaches in the SEC since the 92 expansion.

Saban, Miles, Tuberville

Miles was an OL coach
It's Saban Tubs and then I dunno. Chizik was a defensive guy and won an SEC title lol

Exactly. The "we need a def coach" crowd drives me nuts. The SEC as a league does play great defense, especially in the decades before we joined. And most of those teams nobly stopped the run and ran the ball all the way to losing seasons.
I don't want a Kliff Kingsbury, but I don't want a Muschamp either.
Saban is saban. Who has given him trouble, had runs of success, or challenged for titles from the SEC apart from him since 92? Meyer, Spurrier, Freeze, Sumlin, Malzahn, Petrino, etc. Even Fulmer and Miles were OL coaches.
Plenty of ways to skin a cat, but for my money, I want a guy who fits the talent base we have in Tx, and is intrinsically motivated to be the best every day. That means looking at some eccentric dudes and assholes.
Chip Kelly would be way up there for me.

Chip Kelly has been losing a lot of credibility lately.
Narduzzi is an interesting idea. Can always get a quality OC to handle the offense.

If we were going with someone like Narduzzi or Durkin then breaking out the check book for a legit OC would be necessary for sure.

If that's true (and I don't believe it is) it would be b/c he is starting to feel the heat at TCU and wants to get his last big pay day while he still can. They aren't giving him all that oil money on the down low to have 2 losing seasons in the last 4 years.
He's also had his fair share of thugs and trouble makers and could possibly be trying to flee a combustible situation.
Him fishing around would make me very wary.
IMO, if Sumlin doesn't do enough to be retained, you have to talk to Chip and if he doesn't want to come you go with Morris. I know his lack of HC success has some worried but the guy already has more skins on the wall than Dabo did when he was named Clemson HC, is extremely well liked by Texas HS coaches, and would work harder on making A&M great than any other coach save for maybe the alien robot named Nick Saban.

The nomenclature I prefer is power bottom.
Regardless, anyone who buys the rumor that Gary Patterson is trying to come to A&M is retarded.

Ok guy, no one said it was happening or likely or he was trying to come here.
It's been mentioned several times on another board that he's been in contact. I've been in contact with plenty of jobs I was most likely never going to take just to hear what they'd offer, the position I just accepted for example.

A headhunter calling you is different than you calling around to another companies fishing for a job - which is what you said (see quote from you above) Patterson was doing.

I never said he did jack shite, I said reportedly.
It was mentioned by 2-3 posters that usually know stuff, and are treated by the mods like they know stuff, and also mentioned by a mod. IDK why he would do it or if he did, they just said he did.
I don't understand why you are drawing such a hard line on this?

Yeah it really isn't that ridiculous. Whether the interest is serious or just something from his agent to drum up more money from TCU is the real question
These things are often about money for assistants as well as their own salary. Doug Meacham left TCU to become OC at Kansas at the end of last year if some don't recall

In a semi unrelated note, Bob Stoops just retired effective immediately so Oklahoma maybe looking for a new coach next season too.
