Of course, we already have another QB committed, Roshauud Paul, of Bremond. But we are probably viewing him as either a DB or a WR. The highlights I have seen from him, which are very impressive, showcase him running with the ball - not throwing it.

Nick Starkel is the next QB. Talked to the Elite 11 coaches here in DC and they all felt he should have been the #1 QB in the country by the end of the camp.

quote:

According to Dilfer, Starkel throws the vertical ball as well as any quarterback to ever come through Elite 11. That's something to chew on. What else is there to add? He's probably the most popular quarterback in the group, as well as the quarterback most likely to take the time to congratulate scout-team wide receivers – local kids assigned to thanklessly run hundreds of routes – after a nice reception. That Starkel has shined at every stage of the process has really impressed the coaches.

Sorry

There was a thread on texAgs premium about a tweet from Sumlins assistant that was #yeahsure

Apparently the assistant did the same tweet right before our last commit

The thread got whacked quickly so that ussually means there is some truth to it

This is a different scout's evaluation of Nick Starkel.

He also cites his skill with the deep ball. Not much of a running QB threat. I've also noticed this tendency to throw off his back foot in highlights. He needs to step into his throws more at the college level, where the coverage will be tighter. But a good prospect, who needs to develop some.

Id love him in an Aggies uniform but would not blame him for picking LSU due to his position.

Wave of CB's coming in for WR Jhamon Aubson. Elite receiver that we really need in this class

He's great friends with A&M's Quartney Davis and travels to the campus often. It sounds like he will be picking between A&M, LSU, and UGA on his birthday.

Thinking A&M, but he is from LA. I'm sure the coaches learned their lessons last year after the fiasco with the LA kids (Divinity, Lewis, and Williams).

He is #1 on LSU's board though many teams are now trying to gauge Akers now that he decommitted.

Paul has been recruited as a slot receiver not a DB or QB.

Additinally, LSU has apparently backed off Toneil- believe they are chasing Ackers. Georgia is A&M's main competition for Carter, who likely announces as an Ag in October

That would be awesome if we could get a kid from LA away from LSU. I really like what Chavis and Turner are doing by targeting LA (and kids from LA), MS, and TN. Those are "SEC states" where kids want to play in the conference. Not a whole bunch of "Power 5" schools in those states either (4 in 3 states).

TX, GA, and FL kids have the option to play in multiple "Power 5" conferences (10 in 3 states). Too many competing messages in these states.

I have not seen his name yet around here, but Ikenna Okeke from Smyrna, TN has a younger brother named Nick. I saw the other day where Nick was noted as excelling at a camp over in Middle Tennessee. He also plays safety, like his older brother.

I'm sure Coach Chavis knows about him, since he seems to be recruiting the Nashville area. If he looks good in the fall, we might offer him, too.

There were two kids in from TN this weekend. Ben Hutch (3* DT) and TJ Minnifee (unranked OLB).

Carter may have been born in Louisiana, but he's spent most of his life in Houston. He's not an LA kid at this point.

There is always a draw for these kids to go back to LA. Being from LA and living in Houston is normally a big "red flag" for recruiting. It is normally a complete waste of time recruiting these kids. They normally still have many family members still in LA and LSU can use TOPS and other scholarships in the past to lure recruits.

Maybe we will make some headway this year now that TOPS has been suspended.
