He failed his physical FWIW. Will be interesting to see what happens

That is why he became a free agent though. If you fail your physical the drafting team must offer 40% of slot, if they don't you become an unrestricted free agent.

after seeing how much money barrett loux lost due to a failed physical, i cant imagine why he would want to sign.

The O's have a history of doing this, that's why it will be interesting to see what happens. They're an odd organization

It's now officially official, according to Gabe. (Premium post or I'd link it.)

several posters on texags that act like they are in-the-know saying they dont expect him to be a major contributor next year. kinda hard to believe that the highest drafted kid RC has ever had come to campus wont be a major factor as a freshman but we'll have to wait and see

Here is the problem.

Gabe (who is admittedly a goofus but undeniably knows baseball) thinks the kid will be a Tuesday starter and mid-relief guy on weekends, before moving into the Friday slot in '18. But as you said, we'll see.

I'm excited about this kid but that is going to be tough. The rumor is Chafin was promised a shot at a weekend spot (probably Sunday). So the rotation would go something like this.

Friday: Kolek
Saturday: Kilkenny/Doxakis
Sunday: Chafin
Tuesday: Doxakis/(Insert Newcomer)
Closer(s): Sherrod/(Kilkenny)

Thats not mentioning Ruffcorn, Miner, JUCO transfer Nolan Hoffmann, or Andritsos if they use him as a pitcher. There's also the possibility he isn't our best freshman pitcher with lefty Asa Lacy coming in also highly ranked. Basically, Conlon could be a stud but still not crack the rotation.

At this point, I feel confident we will have 4 or 5 serviceable starters, but I am not sure if we have any true Friday night starters. We need someone(s) to step up big.
