Know anything about the catcher (Coleman)?

Supposed to be able to hit with some pop. I'm a little worried about his catching ability.

RC commonly uses one of his best pitchers like that. Like Vinson, Jester, Thebeau, etc over the last decade.

surprising to me Kolek is not in the rotation. Obviously no idea what Gabe's heard but Kolek had a great summer and took home the Alaska league cy young (or whatever) award.
I can't find the scouting report I read on him over the summer but they were suggesting he showed 1st round stuff and given his pedigree, he was getting a lot of attention.
But summer doesn't always translate, so not sure if Kilkenny has made that kind of leap or the reports on Kolek were exagerrated

1. Stephen Kolek, rhp, Mat-Su (So., Texas A&M)
A year after Corbin Martin was named the circuit’s best prospect, another Aggie landed atop the list as the physical righthander Kolek flashed the type of movement and velocity on his fastball that made some think he could be a first-round pick in due time. The younger brother of 2014 No. 2 overall pick Tyler Kolek, Stephen pitched in just 12 games for the Aggies as a freshman but impressed anyway, striking out 21 in 30 innings and posting a 3.30 ERA. He was even better for the Miners this summer, striking out 32 in just 37 innings and finishing with a 2.45 ERA. Already 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, Kolek used a cutter, two-seam fastball and sinker, all of which sat 89-92 mph this summer, to overpower opposing hitters. Other pitchers on the circuit might have thrown harder, but few boasted more movement on their pitches than Kolek. The hard sinker is his best pitch currently and if he is able to add strength and velocity down the road as Miners’ coach Ben Taylor expects he will, the pitch will be downright lethal. He pitches off his variety of fastballs but his secondary stuff isn’t below-average either. The changeup has good sink in its own right and has a chance to be an average pitch down the road while the curveball needs refinement but did show good depth at times. Despite his size and how hard he throws Kolek doesn’t put a lot of effort into his delivery and his motion is very clean. This allowed him to throw all of his pitches for strikes in any count and keep hitters guessing. Kolek’s command came and went this summer but that was at least partially attributed to the movement on his pitches.

Both Kolek brothers are great athletes. He's the type of kid RC usually works wonders with. Great athlete who you can drill a repeatable motion into and everything comes together after that. I would be surprised if he isn't a meaningful contributor this year

Anyone on tArk making it to Olsen this year?
I am going to try and make opening weekend. I have tu tickets for our game in Austin as well. I'll likely get to MMP for one game. Then as many as I can spread throughout the season. My club hook up is still hooking me up on occasion.

So what's the thought about this year? The national publications don't seem as high on us as they were last year

I made my yearly trip to Texas last week, but if they are in a regional anywhere on the west coast, I'll definitely make it.

What are we like 8-1 vs the Ags?
Incidentally, I went to the SC @ A&M game last year, went to 1 of the 3 baseball games... the 1 SC lost, and skipped the basketball game because I expected us to get beat down.... and I may have been hungover.

7-3 but close enough. SC is the only SEC team that has a winning record over us
I wont make it to BBP, but am planning on the friday afternoon game at minute maid versus tech. might even stay for LSU/TCU

We have to replace this.
Boomer - .386/.462/.517, 49 runs, 46 rbi, SEC Player of the Year
Barash - .324/.392/.444, 45 runs, 43 rbi
Moss - .318/.408/.483, 67 runs, 43 rbi
Birk - .310/.378/.478, 52 runs, 45 rbi, SEC 1st Team, SEC D Team
Melton - .300/.375/.510, 56 runs, 67 rbi
Our offense was fantastic last year. We will be nothing like it this year. However, our pitching might be as good so we should win some games.

God. My fricking life. I'm getting my years mixed up in my mid-20s.

i was perusing the other boards today and noticed that both sandhop and slmnsam (the resident BB poster on 247) think that by midseason this years lineup can be as good or better than last years. crazy talk to me but those guys both have seen us practice so i dunno. sounds like this was RCs best recruiting class yet

I'll believe it when I see it. They may be better athletes or have more raw talent, but a bunch of first-time players in the SEC are not all going to have smooth transitions.
