What happened to him? Did he go juco?

We wouldn't let him sign because he wasn't going to qualify. After signing day, he ended up signing a LOI with Miami. He didn't qualify and went to prep school. After prep school, he still didn't qualify.

He enrolled at Texas Southern, a 4-year FCS, last year. He did not play either football or basketball unless I'm mistaken.

What is his actual situation? Last I heard he went JC but quit? Maybe that was hoza?

Sadly that was Hoza. He would be a huge piece of our defense right now ??

a prep school, and then to Texas state. He was never on the football team roster, or on scholarship. Provided his own way to school thru the help of financial aid etc. he's apparently completed the necessary hours (27) with the required gpa (>2.0) that he could be eligible this fall.

Oh my! Had no idea he had actually taken the necessary steps to become eligible.

Do. Want.

Welp, my hopes are definitely up now.

TA is downplaying it quite a bit. So that means it's happening right?

Billy is at a wedding and I spoke to him on the rumors that have surfaced today regarding Derrick Griffin, who announced on Twitter earlier that he was eligible to transfer and play immediately. Griffin has shown interest in transferring to A&M, but our sources have told us there are still significant academic hurdles and it is highly, highly unlikely he'll be at Texas A&M, especially this fall. Billy will continue to monitor the situation and when he gets a chance, I'm sure he'll expand on this situation.

So you're saying there's a chance, then?

We never said it was highly likely going to happen and it may not. We don't know yet. However, for any outlet to say it's highly unlikely is WAY off. In fact, I know 100-percent that A&M is very interested and will look into it more this week.

Also, Griffin hasn't even sent his transcripts to A&M yet, Sumlin is at the Indy 500, Spav is on vacation too and there's been no investigating by the A&M staff into this situation with any detail so how could that possibly be ruled out already?

Just be patient. There will be no better source than this site for info on this situation.

Well, ok

It sounds like he's trying to convince everyone A&M is interested. TA didn't say A&M wasn't. They said "significant academic hurdles" which isn't very far fetched after the last few years.

With Sumlin's history of favoring secrecy, it wouldn't surprise me if TA was suppressing the story on purpose. Maybe to keep other suitors away?

I'm sure hamm is getting most of his info through Griffin, which would explain the more optimistic view point.

We should know quite a bit more in a week or so. Until then I can dream lol

If we can't get him then keep his arse out of the SEC West.

If anyone can take him, he'll be ours. He's indicated since declaring he's eligible that we would be his first choice still. I feel like he'll end up getting in, but not being eligible till '16...

Which wouldn't hurt my feelings at all.

Reports made that Derrick Griffin's chances of transferring to Texas A&M are "highly unlikely" were made prematurely.

In fact, things continue to steadily progress between the Griffin party and the Aggie coaching staff.

According to a source close to the the former Rosenberg Terry dual-sport athlete,
Derrick sent his transcripts to the A&M coaches today and spoke to wide receivers coach Aaron Moorehead on the phone this morning.

The next step is for the A&M compliance department to look over Griffin's transcripts on Tuesday. As long as there are no major hold ups after reviewing his progress over the past year at TSU, the plan is for Griffin to come up to College Station and visit with the coaching staff later this week.

Wednesday was a date discussed between Griffin and the Aggie coaching staff earlier today but we will know for sure tomorrow.

By no means is this potential transfer for certain, but the notion that A&M is not interested in adding Griffin to their roster is false. Sources close to the situation have shared with GigEm247 that Kevin Sumlin's staff would love to add the 6-7 wide receiver if possible.

Again, Griffin has been in contact with A&M today and once his transcripts have been vetted through the compliance department his status will become more clear.
