It is not the best season in A&M history. Winning the conference is a nice bonus, but not the huge achievement it is in football. We went 13-5 for Christ's sake

Look, I agree with your assessment of Billy Kennedy, but pat's statement is true here.

Last year's team was the first A&M basketball team to win 28 games and tied for most conference wins in one season (13 wins). In case you forgot, during the 2006-2007 season, the Aggies went 1 and done in the Big 12 tournament.

If you want to get technical, A&M went 15-6 in conference last year (13-5 regular season, 2-1 in the SEC tournament).

I think our 2007 season was better. Won the same number of conference games in a harder conference and didn't finish the season with a total no-show.

That's actually a false statement.

While we did win 13 games in the regular season, we completely no-showed against 7-seed Oklahoma State in the opening round of the conference tournament.

That made our conference record 13-4 that season.

That no-show against Oklahoma State pushed us down to a 3-seed in the tournament. Had we won that game, we'd play the sips then possibly the Jayhawks for the tournament title. We could have been a ONE SEED for the South region that year.

Contrast that with 2016, when we went 13-5 in the regular season, and 2-1 in the conference tournament, for a 15-6 record.

When last I checked, 15 wins in conference > 13 wins in conference.

If you want to include the conference tournament, then yes, we won fewer conference games in 2007. That said, the Big 12 was/is a far better basketball conference than the SEC. Last year 2-3 SEC teams* out of 14 made the tournament, which is freaking pathetic. Then, Kentucky ducked out in the round of 32 and we squeaked into the Sweet 16 where Oklahoma clobbered us.

Last year was a nice season and definitely one of our best (though I think "best" is debatable). But I'd say it was far from "give this man a lifetime contract!" quality. Plus, I've seen nothing that makes me think it was repeatable. This season, our effort is tanking and fundamentals are deteriorating, and neither of those are due to our PG situation. They're due to coaching.

*2-3 depending on your opinion of the play-in games. Vanderbilt got a play-in spot and lost, so they didn't even make the round of 64.

Nothing in this statement is debatable. However, no matter how you slice it, 2015-2016 was, statistically, the best season in A&M history.

Kenpom & RPI both ranked the 2007 team ahead of our 2016 team. So there are some measures that say it was a better season. I don't know. 1 extra win while playing in a lesser conference doesn't strike me as an insurmountable statistical hurdle.

You can make cases for both. I like post-season play, and it's splitting hairs, but I thought our 2007 team played much better in the tournament. A hair's breadth from the Elite 8 whereas our 2016 team was a hair's breadth from going home in the round of 32

What should someone who hasn't watched a single second of aTm this year know about your team?

It's poorly coached. It will become very apparent Saturday.

To you will also notice an air of apathy in the building.

We're completely short handed. If you get us in foul trouble early, one or two of Davis/Trocha/Williams, we're screwed. We have two players who can shoot from the outside (Hogg/Gilder) and we haven't had a game yet where both of them are on at the same time.

Due to our lack of depth, don't worry if you're down by 15 with 8 min to go, we'll start handing the ball over to you consistently soon.

i know nothing about georgia outside of frazier and maten, but if yall play aggressive defense that will be enough to keep you in the game, even if those two are having an off day.

that's all that's worth knowing essentially. We go as they go, although if one of them is really ON they can make up for the other struggling. So far in conference play the main theme has been if Maten gets in foul trouble (which he's seemed to do often somehow) we're in trouble, if he's not then we should be alright.

Others to watch for would be Derek Ogbiede down low, a big wide body that has started to find a little offensive game lately. Juwan Parker is a 3 who is also kind of coming into his own, but he's definitely not someone to game plan around.
