Outside of our coaching deficiency, this is a very good matchup for us.

Even as bad as we have looked at times, we are more talented than UF and they have an even worse offense than us with much less talent at the skill positions. I believe the defenses are pretty similar.

The play calling has been frustrating at times offensively, but I don't think anything has really happened this season that drastically changes the outlook on this game.

It is a game Tennessee can easily win playing poorly and should win comfortably if they play well.

This is not a good opponent, do not let Florida's play against 3 teams worse than anyone we've played change your mind.

I believe Tennessee wins 24-13 or so. Don't think the outcome will really be in doubt in the 4th quarter.

I agree with you 100 percent. Even if this weren't a good match-up, I despise the pussy arse defeatism that's been on display. We can be rational or even unenthusiastic about what we've seen so far without the bullshite that's been going on lately.

But really, our defense is still very good. We can survive without Cam. Our DL and pass rush can give UF hell. Our OL is struggling but we can still find ways to score. And we can win if this team even plays to half of its potential.

Florida is pretty bad. That is why I'm struggling to understand this pessimism.

They've played probably the two worst FBS programs in the nation and Kentucky, who gave up 42 to New Mexico State on Saturday.

An above average performance and the VOLS win by multiple scores.

Everyone is upset we didn't blowout Ohio and App State.

Vols are winning this one comfortably.

Action is all on Florida just as I suspected (and hoped) but it has moved a little more than I had hoped.

Will be interesting to follow it the rest of the week.

First 3 VOLS games (App State +20.5, VOLS -11 and Ohio +27) have been easy easy wins. I got VOLS -6.5 today and feel very good about it.

Will do. The bet threads on the MSB are good reads every week. User ChemE especially is a good guy to follow/tail in those threads if you are trying to learn more.

Some FEI stats that support VF30's assessment:

FEI ranks us at #16 and UF at #60.

#16 Vols have went 3-0 against an Above Average Team (VT), an Average Team (App St), and one Below Average Team (Ohio).

#60 Gators have gone 3-0 against 3 Awful teams. Awful is defined by FEI as ranked 116 or worse.

FEI's categories are as follows:
E for Elite (ranked 1-5), VG for Very Good (ranked 6-15), G for Good (ranked 16-30), AA for Above Average (ranked 31-50), Av for Average (ranked 51-70), BA for Below Average (ranked 71-90), B for Bad (ranked 91-105), VB for Very Bad (ranked 106-115), and Aw for Awful (ranked 116 or worse).

LINK /

We are seriously underestimating how terrible UF's competition has been while also underestimating the level of our opponents. Right now, VT has the #2 overall defense (their offense is still meh but Bud Foster is legit even when he has less talent to work with). Kentucky is at #116 using FEI.

An interesting note is that Georgia is ranked 14 using FEI *but* for some reason only 2 games register for them. So I'm not sure what's up there and/or if they simply overlooked inputting their info. I personally don't think UGA is that good at the moment.

That's interesting stuff. I am not completely sold on quants but recognize that they can tell a great deal sometimes.

This game is really big for this team. I sure hope they look better.

I agree that UGA hasn't impressed, but they have some talent. I would love to see UT look sharp this week.

I was hoping some could get an idea for my posting the last couple days...not sure how everyone is feeling for the game. This game is really big for this team. Yeah, I'm not 100 percent a believer in quants when it comes to CFB (too many variables + college kids) but I do like the perspective stats can provide. We should be able to handle this game even with the defensive losses and the poor OL/offense in general. But we still have to buckle down and do it.

I think if we can win this game it will boost confidence to a level where this team will be able to handle teams statistically better than them. Florida might not admit it but beating us last year was what gave them confidence and propelled them to over-perform in later games (until Grier got suspended).

So much about CFB is a mental thing which is why stats can only go so far but a victory against UF would be magic, imo.

Beat Florida and I suddenly feel confident about going into the Bama game undefeated.
