What is all this smoke about Fulmer now being the leading AD candidate?

Just got an update from ESPN telling me that, as much as I would love to hire Blackburn I think the sentimental part of me would rather have Phil

He would give his right arm for this school and we sort of owe it to him (not really, we gave him lots of $$$$). He deserved to go out as AD like Broyles/Dye/Alvarez/Osborn before him

Anyways Blackburn might be likely to be better but my heart would rather have Fulmer. You folks hearing anything?

frick me running!

He couldn't even fire assistants that needed to be fired. They want to put him in charge of all hiring and firing?

He rode his laurels and the "Eight Is Enough" contract until our program augured right into the ground.

Kiffin is the best thing that ever happened to Fulmer. It gave him a scapegoat for the mess he created.

My heart says Fulmer has a chance to really suck as AD, and my head tells me Blackburn is a slam dunk who has, you know, actually been a AD before.

I love Phil and all, but let us not pretend that he is some nuanced thinker when it comes to solving problems. He was fired for being too redneck stubborn on the game passing by him and other coaches working harder than him. Now let's make him the CEO in charge of the success for every sports program?

*I say this as acknowledging that he could be a homerun, but as someone suffering from chronic battered Vol syndrome since 2001 seccg, I'm fully assuming for the worst.*

I'm going to be very disappointed if we don't get Blackburn.

What is that from? If it means what I think it means it should make me angry but it just cracks me up

I never interpreted him to be that self aware

Coach Fulmer had two bad years. Mike Hamilton wrecked the program.

Why is it so obvious to me that CPF's record as a coach has little or no bearing on his qualifications for AD?

Because it doesn't. He isn't seeking to be the coach.

Fulmer can go one of two ways.

He could be the Tennessee guy that we desperately need and will give the football program to a phenomenal coach who will take us to the top....

OR

He could be literally the most pathetic hire we have ever seen as he tries to micromanage the football program because he was a former coach.

I'm not a Fulmer hater at all, but what has he done to show he could run an athletic department?

Nothing that I know of, hopefully if hired he would be familiar enough with the inter workings to be successful

And to the previous poster, Fulmer might be historically bad as an AD but I don't see him micromanaging things. He is a good dude who has kept his mouth shut these last few years when he could've created a shitshow by saying I told you so. Not only that he's lived the coach end of the AD/HC relationship so I'm sure he's very much against meddling
