Hi folks,

As you might remember from a couple of previous threads I started on your board, my FIL is a huge UT fan. He turned 80 earlier this year.
I have promised him that he and I would do something this summer, just he and I, but my work schedule and deadlines are not allowing me to get away from work.

Have been thinking about just bringing him to Knoxville for a game this season. Would really like to do the Bama game, I think he would really enjoy it.

Where should I look for Tix and Parking? I suppose I could buy from Stubhub or craigslist, but I wanted to ask you guys for advice. I would like to be able to get decent/good tickets and parking within a fairly short walk of the stadium if I could prepurchase that. My FIL is in good health, but I don't want to have to have him walk 2 miles to and from the game.

I know the Bama game will be expensive, but I'm willing to pony up if I can get good seats and parking. Any advice would be appreciated.

I always get my tickets on Stubhub. They pretty accurately reflect the market and you don't have to worry about getting screwed.

As for parking I think you can also get tickets off Stubhub. I live in Knoxville so I've never had to worry about it.

I used to live in a house around 12th and White and we would sell slots and it's legit a 4 min walk into the stadium. It's not close to the big tailgates but it's a very easy walk to the stadium. If you go anywhere in the fort around that area you can get a spot for $15-20.

And you can always walk on to campus for the fun stuff (Vol-Walk and tailgates).

Thanks. Hadn't thought of the Vol Walk. My FIL might really enjoy that, not sure if he has ever been at a game to participate. Being around tailgaters isn't an issue, we want to get there maybe a couple of hours before the game, get into the stadium and be able to head back to the car afterward and head back north.

Then I would recommend parking in Fort Sanders (12th and White) area and walking a little ways. Traffic will be a nightmare regardless but if you try to tailgate on Campus it'll be several hours before you start to move post-game.

Taking him to TSiO this year will be epic but expect prices to match that. That said, it could be a once in a lifetime experience for you both. It's been some time since both UT and Bama will enter that game ranked and possibly fighting to preserve undefeated seasons (the series is usually streaky but this year is a parity/near-parity year for the teams). Even though we're dirty Vols and you're a UK fan, I think you'll enjoy that game as well.

Be sure to take in all the events that you can. This year ought to be special in that way. Campus and the Strip will be madhouses.

Google isn't helping. Is that an acronym for a UT/UA rivalry?

Yes. "The Third Saturday in October" is the name of the rivlary.

Does anyone know, if I want to get lower level seats on the sideline and be under the overhang (in case it rains - I do have an 80 year old who will be with me), what rows I need to shoot for?

Also, wanted to ask again about prior arranged parking. Are there parking lots near the stadium that I can go ahead and buy a reservation for? Any links or numbers?

Bonus: I will wear an orange shirt, and my FIL will be fully decked out in UT gear I'm sure.

Looking at this on Google Earth. Are there places in Fort Sanders to reserve a spot, or is it street parking, etc?

My last post about parking, I promise.

Does UT have a shuttle that runs from somewhere to the stadium before and after the game? Would that be a parking solution I should consider?

UK has parking at Rupp Arena for football games and shuttles people before and after the game, so I'm thinking of something like that.

Yes there are shuttles, just depends on where you park if they are worth it to you.

There's also a train that runs from Cumberland Ave/Walmart to the stadium.

If you park in Fort Sanders you'll be able to find people selling their personal spots. Typically in the $15-20 range. You'd have to be lucky as shite to find street parking.

Thanks. How far of a walk would that be to the stadium from the Fort Sanders area? If I arrived say 3 hours before game time, would I be able to find a parking spot?

So I obviously don't purchase tickets on stubhub very often, but the tickets I selected were $422 each, and with fees they were a little over $500 each. Is that normal to have $80 in fees on stubhub?

$422 each?! Are you getting your dick sucked by a Vol hostess the entire game for that?

Yeah, $1007 with fees, which I wasn't expecting, I was expecting $850 total.

This is the Bama game, so I knew I would have to pay up unless I wanted to drive down and buy tickets on the street, but I have a friend who has been scammed before doing stuff like that, so I would rather buy from a source beforehand.

I think you'd be able to do that. I know we sold spots by our house and we would sell them all day. It typically depends on the game, spots go quicker-earlier the bigger the game. But from where I used to live on 12th and White (and where I would recommend trying to be to be close to the interstate) there's a bridge that goes to the hill that would make the stadium a 5 min walk max for me and my buddies.

Isn't that the most popular cross section in the Daily Beacon's crime log for muggings and such?
