Thoughts on Chaney and Pittman to UGA

Pittman is a beast, great hire there. I'm not sold on Chaney... He infuriated me with his play calling here. 3rd and 1? Throw a 40 yard bomb for an incompletion. Punt

Good hire pulling Pittman from Arkansas.
Very meh hire on Chaney, IMO. The guy is decent, but Smart will have to replace him at some point in order to reach the level of success they are looking to attain. Probably a decent buffer until they figure it out in year 2 or 3 that there are better candidates to take them where they want to go.

I feel the same way. Chaney fricking blows and doesn't recruit either. For all the crap that Debord gets about being too conservative, our 3rd down conversion rate was 46% this year. Chaney's 2012 offense with 8 or 9 future NFL players on it converted only 36%. His play calling and feel for the flow of the game was just atrocious imo.

Haha I had no idea they hired Chaney, he fricking sucks. It's like they can't hire a decent OC to save their lives. Bobo, Schott, and now this clown. They'll find out soon enough how bad Big Jim is.
It sounds weird saying this, but I feel like Debo is one of the better OCs we've had lately after watching the whole year.

Debord grew on me as the season went along, think the conservative playcalling had a lot to do with the injuries to the line and Dobbs inconsistency throwing the ball. Fairly optimistic going into next year.

If ever a guy needed the title of Passing Game Coordinator it's Chaney not Azzani. He's probably the perfect guy to have as a CO-OC, especially personality wise because he does tend to get along with everyone, just as long as the other guy is the Run Game Coordinator.
UGA could've done worse but they probably could've done better. I don't understand why with a stable of blue chip RBs and not much talent at QB you'd go with Chaney but Pro-Style offenses are going the way of the Dodo. There simply aren't that many pro-style OC's to choose from in the college game and that pool is made smaller by the hiring cycle.

Wait, you thought Bobo was bad?

The other three that were rumored have never called a play.

I thought at times Bobo really killed drives with his playcalling, yes. I think he was very fortunate to have a couple of very good college QBs to work with.

He set school records and had top ten nationally ranked offenses. You're being reeeeeaaaalllly nitpicky.

I've seen scores of UGA fans just rag on his play calling so I don't think it's too picky

Sure, the first few years. And find me an OC where the fans don't bitch about play calling.

I would not want him as an OC. I guess I was a little too harsh by calling him bad, but again, he was working with some really good talent especially at QB. That makes a world of difference.
I believe it was 2012 UT that set a bunch of school records as well, but that wasn't because Chaney is some kind of guru.

THIS should be our generations mission to the Moon

I was going to post the same words. I don't think many who pay close attention to SEC football would agree. Bobo was one of the top OCs in the league and probably the best that UGA's ever had. No wonder UT has had such a coaching carousel if this poster is the norm.

I will admit that I don't pay much attention to programs outside of UT. However, I distinctly remember many dawg fans denigrating Bobo and his shite calls at critical times. I saw him help bad UT teams get back in the game on a couple of occasions.
Excellent point, message board posters are the cause of UT's recent troubles. Enjoy Big Jim Chaney, perhaps he'll replace Bobo on the pantheon of UGA coaching greats.

Cheney is better than any OC they've had there in quite some time....and Pittman is a good OL coach and a very good OL recruiter. I think it is a good fit.

I wish we would've hired Pittman.

I hope he's as good as advertised.
