The Fault In Our Stars?

Back in the ‘90’s Coach Fulmer definitely benefited from disarray at UGA and Bammer.
Could the stars be similarly aligning again? Finebaum said that Coach Saben had considered retiring after last year. If he retires or leaves Bammer the effect is the same in the short term. UF may have a period of adjustment; Coach Mac may be transitional and the same thing may be going on at UGA. Coach Smart doesn’t seem to have them very well in hand. Now LSU has leapt over a precipice.
Tennessee may be sitting right pretty in the SEC for a while.
What do ya’ll think?

Would be very ironic for sure after all the shite they've given us

I do not think Butch Jones is the long-term answer here. He has done a pretty good job, but he doesn't have what it takes to lead the program into "Decade of Dominance: Part II".

This is why if Peyton has any desire to coach I wish he would take a job and get some experience under his belt

You could be right.
Thing is that these other programs are entering periods of instability and turn over.
Coach Jones has now been on The Hill for 4 years. Someone said he is a good CEO type coach. That alone may take us a ways in the next few years.

This thing ebs and flows. Maybe it's UT's time finally but someone else will step up to the plate soon enough.

Yep. A program like UGA isn't gonna stay down (if this even qualifies as that) for long
Slumps like we went through or Bama went through just aren't very likely to happen to a program of this caliber

Are you saying that UGA is better caliber than Bammer and UT?

Your glass is half empty.
That is true but there may be a window like Coach Fulmer found in '98.

If that's how you want to see it then it's whatever. We're where UT was when Butch took over. Not a ton of upperclassmen leadership and very little senior leadership. We'll be fine. Kirby has been killing it on the recruiting trail.

Maybe, but our AD who I hate has definitely been better than Hamilton has. He's a large reason why you folks slumped so long.

Not even close to that bad. You may have some gaps on your squad, but you have a much MUCH better roster to work with than we did 4 years ago.

Let me know when UGA is starting 3 Walkons, a career backup OL at DT in fall camp, a converted WR in fall camp at CB with 6 other three stars vs a team like Florida. That's what Dooley was left with his first year. I remember freakibg out because a sophomore two star DT named Montori Highes was suspended for the Florida game causing a 5th string walkon TE who was a frost to start vs Florida. This UGA roster is loaded compared to what Dooley and Butch took over.

Do other fanbases not know how bad it really was? Our DBs ran 4.7s at their pro day. They might have been struggling to break 5 flat at the combine. He had Worley at QB and was bad at the skill positions. And that front seven was terrible. Not one person was drafted the last few years.
The roster when Butch got here was bottom three in the SEC. Maybe, the worst.

Got one in the secondary and it shows.

Got the opposite, we have a DL that never even saw the field starting on the OL.

Got a converted WR moved to RB but thankfully the freshmen have showed up so we moved him back to WR.
We have two starters out the 2013 senior class. Of the 51 signed in 13 and 14 only 27 are left. Your situation was worse but we're not exactly sitting pretty with the upperclassmen.
Another issue is Richt's OL recruiting has been poor and it shows. He believed that stud skill players could overcome weak OLs. We want a power run game and that's not going to happen with weak OL recruiting.

2013 VOLS were easily the least talented Tennessee team in my lifetime. Dooley left Butch a very nice OL full of seniors that were about to graduate and that's about it. Remember the 2012 class in which Dooley took ZERO offensive lineman? That team was so devoid of talent, it was astonishing.
QB - Worley and Peterman
RB - Rajion Neal, Lane and slaw arse Devrin Young
WR - Starters were Cody Blanc, Jacob Carter and Pig Howard lmao.
TE - Brendan Downs...not sure who else.
OL - Nice starting 5 with nothing behind them
DL - Jaq Smith, McCullers, Daniel Hood, Walls, Saulsberry, Jordan Williams
LB - AJJ and Maggitt were legit players. Nothing but pure slaw behind them like Dontavius Sapp, Crump, Channing Fugate, John Propst.
DB - Randolph and Coleman were solid but my god at the lack of talent and speed in this area. Brent Brewer, Lemonade Johnson, Tino Thomas, Orta, Eric Gordon, Riyahd Jones.
The above roster is exactly why Butch took like 33 recruits in his first full class and nearly all of them played significant roles or started as true freshmen in 2014. I cannot believe Mr. Osborne just compared Georgia's current roster to the above trash heap I just listed.
