Top defensive grades
LB Colton Jumper 86.3
ED Derek Barnett 83.5
CB Emmanuel Moseley 82.8
LB Cortez McDowell 77.6
S Todd Kelly, Jr. 74.4
Vols get contributions at every level of the defense
After a slow start, the defense cracked down starting in the second quarter. Jumper made an impact in the run game, but he was extra impressive in coverage where he allowed three receptions that netted no yards and he deflected a pass on a wheel route. Barnett did his usual fine work, picking up two sacks, one QB hit, one hurry and a batted pass on 31 rushes to go with his quick block-shedding in the run game. Moseley gave up some yards along the way, but he got in on a number of key plays including the clinching pass defensed late in the fourth quarter.

Would've thought Kelly would have a much higher grade

Agreed. I don't understand how Barnett's isn't higher. It seemed like he was in the backfield every play in the second half

I keep telling y'all it sounded crazy but that Jumper played a great game. Our ginger stole his very own soul that game. Took it from one of the ones TK jr. was talking about.

To me that's the most perplexing one but he may not have done as well in other aspects. He was disruptive as hell tho.
Also, Danny O'Brien was a man that a game.

We sure this guy isn't from Appalachia?

He is white trash for sure. Love that guy. The D line has been consistently good this year. It looks like the defense in general is starting to gel. Bob Shoop is a huge upgrade over Jancek.

He's from 'Badassalachia.' That's for sure. But as far as I'm concerned he's been here long enough to claim him as one of us. Plus he's always had a mean streak a mile wide.
Wasn't this him adding the insult to injury at the end of the play?

He certainly looks like it

He also played the game with his two front teeth missing (apparently waiting on replacements to arrive). And he's from Flint, Mich so he might as well be Appalachian.
Edit: David Ricky beat me to the missing teeth thang.

Here's two very nice plays by our much maligned linebacker
Jumper drops the Ginger Hammer on Florida RB
Maybe the best coverage 53 has ever played, saving a touchdown

the offensive line once again struggled as Hurd picked up 82 of his 87 yards after contact
And that is why Hurd gets all of the carries. The oline has got to play better to beat A&M and Bama. Hall's first game back and already grades out the best.

I forgot about that gif
He's mean as hell. Glad to see him really making an impact
