Robertson will likely be the center.

Richmond, Boulware, Robertson, Jones, Kendrick seems most likely as of now.

If T Smith is ready they would likely slide Kendrick in to RG, but TS would need to make some significant strides in the next few months. The biggest problem is there are not a lot of guys they can count on mentally. If you go with Smith and Richmond at tackle you almost have to go with Robertson and Kendrick next to them to help them out. That scenario would be the only way I can see Thomas getting on the field at C, although I guess they could go with Jones at center in that scenario.

I do not think they are counting on Hall to be healthy.

Thanks for the info. I'm down with any scenario that involves Slawman Thomas on the bench. A Boulware/Robertson/Jones interior sounds intriguing.

Is Richmond looking better now? I know you were really down on him last year.

Is it just me or does it seem like Kendrick has been at Tennessee forever?

Richmond took some big steps forward after he got benched last year but I think it is a huge spring for both him and Boulware.

I still do not think he is anywhere near where the hype was when he signed.

Smith imo will be the real deal but he has a long way to go as of now.

Kendrick was originally a Dooley guy was he not? I think he is the last one left unless I'm forgetting someone.

Stolen from Volquest from someone who was able to attend practice today:
quote:

Here are my notes/impressions. I largely watched the offensive side of the ball and focused specifically on QB drills. This may seem a bit scattered but I'll be happy to answer any questions if you have them.

Trey Smith worked as the 1st RT

JG worked as the QB with the ones most of the day it seemed.

Quentin looks like an NFL QB. Really spins it and is consistent for this early stage of spring ball.

Sheriron really impressed me today. Threw a beautiful deep ball. Every rep seemed solid and had a couple spectacular ones. Not saying it's a 3 horse race but there are definitely 3 SEC QBs on the roster.

That's not to slight McBride. Really liked his demeanor in practice. Ball jumps off his hand despite a wonky delivery. Simply looks like a "JV" guy size wise compared to the other 3 guys in the QB room.

JG's temperament was up and down at times today. Fiery for sure. But also missed some easy throws in the flats. Makes some splash plays and everything comes easily to him. Just needs refinement.

Devante Brooks wasn't in pads but looks to have an NFL body. Really impressed with his frame as an OT.

John Kelly is absolutely ELITE. Made our LBs look foolish in tackling drills. Plays with a ton of confidence.

Warrior ran with the 1's all day.

With JJ not dressed out, Marquez Callaway is the best WR on the field right now and 2nd best really isn't even close. Callaway caught everything and looks GROWN.

Light really has not come on for Jeff George like I had hoped. That goes for the entire WR group though. Today it was Callaway and everyone else.

In a 1 on 1 drill, JG threw an absolute seed to Callaway on a Dig Route. Just a laser.

Khalil seems to be moving really well. Can't imagine him missing the GT game.

Jashon Robertson will be a captain. Absolutely crawled the OL for lack of communication leading to a couple protection breakdowns.

Same for Eman Moseley. Constantly encouraging the entire team. Love how he interacts with his teammates.

Rock snapped for the QBs during at least one drill. Really a cool form of servant leadership. Seems genuinely happy to be as Vol. Had a great rapport with everyone on the roster.

Canales is a huge upgrade. Just carries himself like a big time QB coach. QBs are constantly accountable. Noticed them constantly taking reps on air running through run game footwork during downtime between drills. It was impressive.

Josh Dobbs, Josh Malone, Cam, and DB were all at practice today. Speaks positively to the culture Butch has built to see those guys still coming around a Tuesday practice (screw you Travis Haney).

Josh Smith wasn't dressed either and did light work on the side.

Big Shy was in the weight room until the very end of practice but walked out on the the field without any cast/brace or any noticeable limp.

Side note: All 4 of the QB's looked really good to me in the videos they released this afternoon. Will McBride is obviously smaller as a true freshman, but he's throwing lasers and surprised me more than I thought he would. S. Jones looks like he's taken the next step and for the first time might give Dormady and Guarantano some legitimate competition. That's big news. Canales gaining some praise from another person who has seen him coaching during spring ball.. fingers crossed

How did he manage to get his 7th year of eligibility?

In all seriousness, he's been injured every year. His sophomore year (I think) was about the only one where he played most of the year uninjured. That year he looked really good but dude has been nonexistent since then. I hope he can stay healthy this year and produce. We need more than one veteran in the WR corps.

Is it bad that I find myself getting really excited for this season? I think as a whole we will look a lot better. Oline is where I really think we improve which will bring everything up with it.

Updated guess at starters for GT

Dormady
Kelly
Jennings
Byrd
Smith
Wolf
Richmond
Robertson
Thomas
Kendrick
Smith

Kongbo
Vickers
McKenzie
Taylor
McDowell
Kirkland
Gaulden
Moseley
Martin
Kelly
Abernathy

QB comp is all but over and not a lot of competition at a lot of these other spots. O-line and Secondary seem most fluid. Warrior/Abernathy and Buchanan/Martin could go either way and so could the o-line. Robertson (guard or center) and Kendrick (tackle or guard) have spots and Smith is inching that way at tackle. Jones/Richmond/Thomas are likely battling for 2 spots. Hall I don't think they expect will be healthy.
