App State is pretty good and experienced on the defensive side of the ball and we may have some struggles early.
17-10 at the half, pull away in the second and win 41-17.

I think the opposite, we always seem to come out guns blazing, get up big by half and then coast. So I saw we win 48-13 and it'll be 31-3 at half.

It looks like it may rain as well which i think helps us.

They are a ground and pound team, I personally would prefer to not play on a wet field.

I anticipate this game being a lot closer than people expect. App State is not a slouch, and although Tennessee is head and shoulders better, with it being the first game of the season we will have some kinks (especially on defense) to work out. While we work those kinks out, they have a very dynamic duo at QB and RB. Additionally, I think our offense will be VERY vanilla, hopefully until 24 Sept when we play Florida. I don't expect them to run Hurd to death, and I anticipate seeing some 2nd and 3rd teams after the half. I anticipate a major meltdown by Vols fans after we beat App by only two touchdowns, but it will be a Win, and it will be by design. Final prediction:
Vols 34 - 20 App St
Vols 34 - 20 App St

JMO but if this team is as good as we think it is, Appy State is not a team you have any problems with, regardless of who they return. This game should be over by halftime.
48-10
48-10

serious question: What kind of team did Appy State have last year? Are they a young squad or an experienced group?

Appy State won the Sun Belt last year and returns 17 starters.

I thought they finished 2nd in the Sunbelt to Arkansas State

My bad, you're right.. App State finished second at 7-1 in the conference, with their only loss to 8-0 Ark St
..but they DO return 17 starters!

I'm expecting a very vanilla game plan on offense honestly. Defensively probably the same as Shoop will keep as much in his back pocket as possible.
App State's bread and butter is going to be ground and pound and they will try to control the clock as much as possible. I expect our defense to load the box and force them to pass, which is not what App State wants to do.
I just want to get out with a convincing W and resting as many of the starters as possible. Then get ready for our primetime coming out party on national TV in Bristol
