Guys "quit" all the time.

I would be surprised if this sticks, but I guess it did with Hurd last year.

They were trying hard yesterday to squash this/talk him down before it got out.

It's more the coaches fault than his but I wouldn't be crushed if he left

I don't know why he cares about starting. He looks scared on the field. Might be a relief for him that he doesn't have to play.

Has this been confirmed yet?

EDIT: He hasn't quit yet...he's just thinking about it.

He threatened to quit last summer. Now that he's tied for the lead in the SEC for INTs he can't understand why he's been benched.

On what basis could he possibly have tried to quit last summer?

Butch must be even more ridiculous than I even imagined

"If I'm not the starter" is the basis. CBJ is time-out Dad as Herbie called him. He tries to make everyone happy and with 85 guys on the roster that's just not possible. It's lead to the lack of discipline we've seen since last year.

From what I've been told players have done this a lot. CBJ mishandled Hurd by babying his arse and ever since players have known how to pull his strings instead of the other way around. In this case, QD knew as much as any fan did that we needed QBs and couldn't afford to lose JG or QD.

Football teams are like prisons and classrooms - you usually lose discipline via one of two ways 1. by being unreasonably harsh (no fairness to it - you can be a hardass as long as it's fair) 2. appease/be too buddy-buddy with them without showing that there are some things you're dead serious about, laying those things out and following through when someone doesn't comply with those rules and requirements.

Dormady was absolutely shredding the defense in practice last year during camp. There were a couple guys on the defense who were lobbying for him to start over Dobbs.

A lot like Peterman in that it just hasn't carried over to games.
