Reality check thread

Ok, this thread is here to stop us from getting to carried away with optimism and then inevitably being angry and pissed at coaches/players when we don't do as well as we thought this year. I've seen some 10 win season predictions on this website and I just want to make sure everyone keeps an eye on where we were last year and keeps in mind how unlikely such a jump would be this year. Here are a few thoughts:
-we went 7-6 last season
-to get bowl eligible we beat a horrid Vandy team by only a TD, granted that's an oversimplification as we were injured/arrested/on the road but I still thought we should've played better
-our 7th win that ha fueled so much optimism was a beat down of a 7-5 big 10 team
-we still have to beat florida in the swamp this season with players that many of whom are still very inexperienced, that will not be easy
-OU is going to be a very tough game, I wish it was occurring later in the season
-we are playing Mizzou on the road and they have been a thorn in our side ever since joining the SEC
I will be absolutely SHOCKED if we win 9 games in the regular season this year, hope like hell we do but I just think 8 is a more realistic number for this team with this schedule and just want to try to pump the breaks a little bit before everyone ends up disappointed

With the way other teams are, there is absolutely no reason we shouldn't compete for the east this year. If we don't, it's not because of the players.

1. It could be bc if the players, we still lack experience and somewhat lack depth

I honestly can't believe how much they've bought in to that even in threads that are the opposite of ridiculous.

Opposing fans absolutely hate the idea of UT being good again. So much so that some refuse to believe it's a possibility. I know everyone gets shite on tRant, but I really think the VOLS get it a little worse than most others. I suppose I'm biased though.
It really is only a few of our posters that routinely troll and it's so obvious. Otherwise, I think we are mostly realistic.

I'm surprised at this too and especially the ones that have posters who seem most insecure about it - OM, Mizzou, Arky, USC (and I know it's only a handful of posters from those teams who seem on repeat about it but it's weird). What history do we have with them? Everyone else (UGA, BAMA, UF, LSU, AUB etc.) just assumes it will happen and it's only when we're back not if we're back.
And as for our trolls, the rant knows them by name. All two of them and I have no idea how tRant keeps getting taken in each time.

Yes we are, I mean per capita, we don't have as many posters as you, Arky, Bama, LSU, Mizzou, Ole Miss, Mississippi state, A&M.
Nobody hates on Florida, Vandy, Kentucky (except during basketball season), South Carolina, the way they hate on Tennessee.

Let's see, 5 people downvoted Prof's thread, PROF, the least offensive Vol poster, perhaps SECr poster, is downvoted 5 times for a thread which has nothing to do with Tennessee football.
Crimson Legend starts a thread about Butch Jones, everyone applauds and sucks his dick.
Another poster ( not a UT fan) starts a thread about an article that names Tennessee as a contender for the SEC, everyone throws a fit about it.
So no, nothing changed, just another fricking day on the rant. All I can say is God help this board when we start winning again, I will show no mercy to these motherfrickers.

I never took you for the touchy type. He also got 25 up votes. I just think you have new car syndrome. You think everyone is against the Vols but they aren't. They're against every team that's not theirs. I will say that the OM bunch has taken more shots at UT than they would if they were still down like normal.
